HELP - do I have bad game carts or what?

I have about 20 carts that when inserted, come up, but won't start. I hit the fire button, move the joystick...still nothing.

 

What am I doing wrong? With that many carts I thought that maybe I might have a bad joystick but it works fine with other games, and I also switched controllers and games with the paddles have the same problem.

Press the Reset switch on the system. However, some games will start up when you press the fire button.

You are probably doing this already, but you have to hit the reset to start a lot of games.

some games u need two juysticks in to play em...

 

example " slot machine " u need joystick also in port 2

Of course, if it isn't all the controllers and if you may be experiencing a few other problems with some of your other games, then it could be a bad controller port.

 

And as BigFairy321 stated, some games require two joysticks. Some even require that you use a joystick in port 2 rather than in port 1. Take, for instance, "Towering Inferno." Why did they do this? *shrugs* To screw us up.

Thanks, my reset button is messed up so that's probably it.

 

Or the 2nd joystick (I only had 1 joystick plugged in).

Raiders of the Lost Ark is another one that needs both controllers plugged in.
