Goochman
I have a Stelladaptor so I havent found much difference between emu and real deal - However I seem to be a bit better at Drol on the emu. lol, I have a Stelladaptor as well and I like it's performance on AtariWinPlus but I still haven't worked up the courage to bring an Atari joystick to work That might be a bit suspicious

advfan
Hi, here are my first scores for this weeks games. I hate those Kamikaze aliens in Gorf. It's the only screen where I die.
Shannon
My current scores are Gorf - 15650 Drol - 9345 I'll post pics later when I get better scores.
Shannon
New score for Gorf. 26530. And.... My tips.. Even though I suck at this game. Astro Battles Follow the bouncing gorf - If you time it right you can hit him at the start of this level. If you miss, snag him when he comes back to place the 2nd row. Shot count - The invaders only shoot three shots at a time. Keep this in mind for dodging purposes. Sometimes you can use that annoying shield to your advantage. When you see an invader let off three shots shoot your missile so the shield will dissapear and you can slip past the invaders. Kill them all! - OK so maybe not. But dispose of them as fast as you can except for two. This leaves space to shoot at the saucer and gorf (where the real points are). Besides the invaders do not speed up that much anyways. Wait as long as you can! - The space ship always stops underneath the letter O in Mission. Listen for the bouncy gorf. He always goes from right to left. You have to be quick to get him. I usually wait until the invaders get on the same level as the shield and then eliminate one. Don't worry about the last invader - This is not space invaders! You will not die if he reaches the bottom. The game will just continue to the next level. Your better off getting a shot in on a saucer or gorf if you have the chance. Otherwise eliminate the invader. LASER BLAST Keep shooting! - I found I do better if I keep firing about every one half second. I think this has two advantages. 1. You more likely to hit a close alien. 2. It helps you visualize your position relative to the kamikazee aliens. If you get in a good enough rhythm you can let a few shots run long so it will hit an alien further up the screen. Then just slip back into every half second firing. Be quick! - If your quick you can eliminate 4 invaders at the start. Stay out of the way! - Stay to the right or left of one of the groups of attackers. That way you dont have to worry about getting hit from both sides. I usually slide from the right side to the left periodically. SPACE WARP Not a whole lot of suggestions. This one is mostly hand eye co-ordination. It aint worth dying for! - Ships are only 100 points. Don't kill yourself trying to hit them. Let them go if you have to. They don't all need to be killed to continue to the next level. Sit still... Move around! - Alternate between sitting still to line up you shot and moving to avoid the alien's shots. Keep your eye on the ball, um er alien - Ignore the sounds and watch the alien so you can time the shot. I found I had a tendancy to fire in timing with the sounds of the alien. Bad move.. FLAG SHIP Up close and personal! - Get close to the shield so you can eliminate it faster. Stay on the opposite side of the ship and work on the shield. Slip across the middle between the ship's shot. The Flag ship usually fires two at a time. Watch the escorts - On mission 2 and up the flag ship has a couple escorts. Work on getting them out of the way before getting "Up close and personal!" Two possible strategies here. 1. Pick up the pieces. If you shoot the flag ship pieces while they fall off you can score some good points. Problem is they sometimes just fly off the sides of the screen. This approach requires patience and may only gain you a few hundred points. 2. Blow too bits! Shoot off as many pieces as you can and then just finish the sucker. Who wants to stick around anyways? That's all I have for now. An extra life is awarded upon completion of mission 1, but I do not think any are from then on. Good luck! Shannon
ok took me a while to get a shot that wasn't blury, but here is my new submission for Drol. 10835 I broke 10,000 and the game was making some weird noises... Needless to say I did not last much longer. The main disadvantage of the GP32 is getting a good screenshot off of it. Well that and the small screen size. It has a save PCX screenshot option but it did not seem to be working. Next time we play a game that requires artifacting for color I'm gonna set up the pc GP32 emulator so I can copy my save state over for screenshots. Sadly the xbox emu does not do artifacting. bjk7382
I just had a great game of drol. Almost got to level 7. I was on the bottom row of 6 when I died. Drol - Level 6 - 11,
advfan
Here is my final score for Gorf, and I have to thank Shannon for the tips , as I didn't know that unlike Space Invaders you didn't have to kill all aliens before they touch the ground, and avoiding that got me killed a couple of times. However, I think I suck at Drol and will remain the lowest scorer.
Jess Ragan
Those snakes in Drol look shockingly like the Cobrats in Super Mario Bros. 2. I wonder if there's a connection... The high score club is a great idea, by the way. I'll have to look on my hard drive to see if I have the Atari computer version of Gorf. That game was a personal favorite of mine... I can't let anyone else top my score! JR

I dont want to stay up until midnight to close it out Huh? Sorry, thanks for the offer. I was kinda hoping to get one last in. But just so you know. I work night hours, hence my gaming hours are primarily during the night. It's really the only chance I get to squeeze some games in. Jess Ragan
I was too late to enter the contest, but I scored around 28000 points on Gorf. Didn't really do much with Drol, as I didn't completely understand the play mechanics. Also, why's the game in monochrome? Do I have to adjust the memory settings to get full color graphics? Goochman
Jess, If you're playing in an emulator like Atariwin800+ you need to enable 'artifacting' in order to see colors in Gr.8 games like Drol.
