Some of the coolest looking characters in Atari games

I was wondering what you all think are the coolest looking characters in Atari VCS games? My personal favorite has always been the robots from Berzerk.

The dude in H.E.R.O always looked pretty cool. Kinda reminds me of Samus Aran from the Metroid series.

I think the Frog Pond frogs look good for being on the 2600. They are pretty big and animated (and actually look like frogs)

Nothing on the 2600 was as cool as seeing the enemies from Demon Attack that first time. Until that moment, we had no idea that games could look so cool.

I have to go with the enemies in Berzerk as well. They are just cool looking on any format.

I would go with Demon Attack, Hero, and Pitfall Harry. The new dragons from adventure II are also quite well done but since adventure II is a hack and not an original Atari game, I guess they wouldn't count.

Adventure II is a homebrew. Or are you thinking of Nukey's 8k Adventure hack?

This is an interesting question...I just found a bunch of nice simple small photo frames, like for wall hanging, and I'm tempted to do some extreme closeups of Atari characters (kind of like those paintings that were for sale at Philly Classic)

 

Activision had some amazingly detailed characters, the Keystone Kapers Kop, the chef, etc. I'm impressed by almost any game that had scan-by-scanline multicolored sprites and did it cleverly.

The ghost character from HAUNTED HOUSE! Boy, that game used to scare me back in the childhood days!

 

But yes, Berzerk's characters are without a doubt some of the coolest character sprites seen on the VCS.

Literally and figuratively cool:

Frostbite Bailey and the Bear from Frostbite! The awesome gameplay just adds to the coolness:)

(honorable mention: the skier from Activision Skiing - until he falls down )

 

Cool in style and cool looking:

The hacky sack guy from California Games, arguably the best looking character in all of Atari 2600

(honorable mention: Snoopy from Snoopy and the Red Baron, since he's Joe Cool )

I also kind of like the Intellivision M/Network running man, as seen on Discs of Tron etc. Just all those frames of animation seemed like something I couldn't do on my own when I was a kid...

I like the enemies you shoot in Phoenix. And speaking of birds, the character you control in Desert Falcon's done pretty well and moves smoothly. Pitfall Harry's pretty cool, too.

 

The boy in Skateboardin' may be more detailed than most humans on the 2600, but he's kind of geeky looking and earned the nickname "pig legs" from my circle of gamers.

That's just what I was gonna say. Those dragons were very nicely done. I'll also give it up for the Berzerk robots. I've seen the same basic concept in many games for many platforms. Robots with spinning heads that shoot lasers are just cool.

I like the look and detail of the pigs in Activision's 'Oink', they are nicely animated too.

the mad bomber in Kaboom (I like how he smiles when you drop one), the Kop and Krook in Keystone Kapers, and the gangsters in Gangster Alley

I guess for me it was the cop in Keystone Kapers.

Just the fluid movement, along with the background of the game.

 

Atari brand games, well I liked Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark myself.

I always thought that Frankenstein's Monster from the game of the same name was pretty cool, although I'm probably the only one.

 

I was also very impressed with the giant octopus in Name This Game.

Yes I am referring to adventure II. I bought that from Atariage. I guess I should have used the term homebrew instead of hack but I tend to think of it as a hack although technically it is not.
