OKGE 2004!

-^CrossBow^-

Recommended Posts

I'll have to drive back home after the show, so I probably won't be able to hang out afterwards. I'm probably going to have to work Sunday. My boss always wants me to work weekends so he won't have to. Having a Saturday off will be hard to get, but having Saturday and Sunday off will be next to impossible.

I'm trying to get some co-workers to go with me, so I might bring a couple of Lynxes with me. I have no idea where my Comlynx cables are, though.

Will AtariAge sell any copies of the Lynx version of Alien vs. Predator, like they did at AGE last year? I'd like to get my grubby mitts on a copy.

Well... I don't have that many lynx games! lol I've got 27 games now... counting doubles. I'll have maybe two or three others before the show as well. Maybe I can get Atariage to bring an order of Lynx stuff for me to the show! :)

OH... and I will have to be excused for a little bit during the event (I'll be around... but my mind will be on the Husker game!) ;) Perhaps I'll just watch it on my Game Gear (w/ TV Tuner)! :D

I'm up for some grub later after the show. Or gaming... either one would be great!

Crossbow... one of these years we (people w/ tables) all should donate and buy one of these $200 or $150 arcade games that are floating around the Tulsa area and use it as a grand prize! Right now there's a KLAX arcade machine and a few others in the area. That would keep people coming back for more!!!

Finally some major updates for OKGE 2004!

First George Alistair Sanger, known in the industry as The Fat Man will be coming to OKGE 2004 in the afternoon on the 18th! Just in case you don't know who Mr. Sanger is, he is a pioneer in the industry in the area of game soundtracks and audio. The Fat Man is responsible for the tune in the game "Thin Ice" for the Intellivision, as well as many great PC games such as "Loom", "7th Guest/11th Hour", "Zombies Ate My Neighbors", and one of the greatest computer games ever made, "Wing Commander"! If were really good, he might bring his "Team" with him to even play a session or two!

Also there will be an arcade area at the OKGE this year! This is news that isn't so shocking to most of you, and while I still don't have an official count of how many upright cabs will be there, they will be there all the same. Some will even be provided by some of the exhibitors who are attending the OKGE. These cabs will be on free play and have prices listed in case you want to take one home...

Keep your eyes on the OKGE website for further updates as they come in!

My quote from earlier.

Well... if any of you have been following my stuff in the Lynx forum you'll know that I got more than just two or three other games. I'll be bringing everything to the show (what I don't sell off that is). Crossbow... PM me for the LYNX info. I need to know what you need

I don't have copies of Joust, Miniature Golf, PONX, Hyperdrome, or Ishido, but i've got one or more copies of the others. I'll bring as many with me as I can.

How is Joust on the Lynx anyway??? I have Robotron which is just too damned small to honestly play well.

What about Centipede for the Lynx? Is that playable and any good???

As if you need another reason to game in Green Country: OKGE will see the first public appearance of the ultra-rare Odyssey2 trackball controller by Wico. Apparently made in very, very small numbers only - this is one of only two known to exist - the Odyssey2 Command Control trackball puts a different spin on some old favorites on this system. This will be the first public appearance of one of these controllers at a retrogaming show, and it'll be set up for play at the Phosphor Dot Fossils table.

These are photos of the item as seen at least year's OKGE - and also, it's an indication that you never know what's going to walk in the door. An attendee at least year's OKGE happened to have this item with him, and allowed me to borrow it and try it out. As a result of that test drive, I've acquired this one and added it to the permanent PDF exhibit. :) So let it not be said that you won't run into any holy grails at this show!

Roll on into Tulsa on September 18th and have a ball at OKGE!

Yeap...it is only $3 bucks at the door.

If your wanting a special ticket per se...I might be able to print ya something for the memoribilia collection. Afterall, I didn't even realize this, but it appears that several exhibitors from last year's OKGE kept their tags and name tents as part of their collections!

Anyway, the way it will work is that I will have some generic tickets to hand you when you pay as semi proof of your paying. However, I will also have a hand stamp that will be used as a backup so that if you leave you can come back in easily.

Also...I have a new thread to post about the OKGE...I think you all will be excited...hehe..

I hope everybody else is as excited about OKGE as I am!

My display is coming together ... basically I'm going to have six different console copiers set up across three systems (2 SNES, 2 Genesis, 2 N64). Console copiers are the one thing I consistantly get questions about, people seem to be really fascinated by them because most people haven't seen them. I'll also have my PSX dev unit hooked up and my GP32 ... so it's kind of a whole emulation/backup unit theme. Should be a blast ... and if it's not, I'll sit over at my table gaming. :)

I've got a room in the Hilton Friday and Saturday night ... looking forward to meeting some fellow gamers and having some fun!

Shows how much I pay attention to this sub board ... :)

I think we've got it down - the wife and I will be there showcasing:

An Amiga 1200 (modded, with dual monitors this thing is a pain to move around.. and I'm only bringing it cause I promised Flack I'd help him out with his A500). Game to showcase, unsure.

Commodore C64c setup running Creatures since Creatures 2 was so popular on the SX-64 last year. This year the system will get a full screen monitor :)

A Mattel Aquarius setup running a horrible version of Burgertime

A PC Engine Duo, not sure what we'll be running on this.

Originally planned was a Timex Sinclair 1500 setup, but I unfortunately do not have another TV to bring to hook it up to.

Space permitting, we'll have either an Apple IIgs setup or a Plus/4 setup.

Of course, I'm bringing a few hundred games (mostly commons) for sale.

Website update. Check out the picture of the Space Invaders 25th Anniversary mini cocktail controller that will be part of the grand prize:

http://www.geocities.com/bdprill/invaders.html

A standard PS2 controller fits inside, under the lid. It has suction cups on the bottom for a secure grip. It feels good, and plays well, but I prefer using a standard dual shock controller.

With just a few days to go, here's a sneak peek at my top secret project that I've been working on for OKGE. I'm working on this one right down to the wire, as a matter of fact!

okgevida.jpgqbert1.jpg

okge7.jpgokge8.jpg

okge2.jpgcliff.jpg

PDF:TV is an audiovisual history of the early years of gaming, from Odyssey through the dawn of the NES era. Game-in-action shots galore of vintage arcade and console games, rare glimpses of classic video game commercials and cartoons, and much more, all in chronological order. Also featuring music by 8-Bit Weapon and some brand new tunes by Tony Fox NYC (thanks very much to both of them for permission to use their sounds!), and this is no Powerpoint presentation - it's all in motion, and produced on some real live video editing gear. It'll be repeating throughout the day so you can go check out the other exhibits and come back to it any time you like!

Chances are, you haven't seen anything like it before. :D

I'll try to bring my Lynx and as many games as I can fit, so we'll have to figure out what games we'll all want to play multiplayer. I've got too many to list, but not very many of the homebrew releases. Warbirds is a big definite for me though. 8)

 :?:

Who's up for some multi-player gaming fun, either Friday evening, or Saturday after the show?

What type(s) of multi-player games do you like? Fighting, racing, first person shooter, shoot-em-up, battle, puzzle, or something else I may have left out?

I've got Pac-Man vs. for the Gamecube, but have not tried the 4-player mode yet. One person controls Pac-Man, while the other 3 controll the ghosts! It sounds like fun.

At NWCGE, I set up a PS2, with Bombastic and a multitap. Then, five people started to match the dice, and blow each other up! Bombastic drew a crowd, and was a big hit.

My personal fav multi-player game would be the battle mode in Rush 2049, for the Dreamcast. There's nothing like dropping your green balls on your opponents!

:D

Brad, if you need, I can bring the GBA and GC-GBA connector cable with me. I've been trying to gather the pieces necessary to play Pac-Man Vs., I just don't have a 'cube yet. Pathetic, eh? :D

I'll also bring that PS1 import I mentioned earlier that happens to be a blast.

My only problem is having to get back home at a decent hour on Saturday night, because there's always stuff that needs to be done on Sunday. :| I'm also the ride home for a friend of mine who'll be running the PDF table with me, and I'm not sure if he has to work Sunday or not. But I'm sure we can stick around for a little bit.

Assuming by the *wide* response of replies, I'm assuming that people would rather dig food out of garbage cans than to have dinner with me in their presence. :|

Last minute change for my setup - I was packing everything up, and I had the Amiga 1200 ready to go, and the C64C setup... so I figured I'd just make the whole thing a Commodore theme. So the CD32 will be back, this year playing "The Chaos Engine", and since I didn't have enough time for this year to get the Plus/4 or PET into shape, I'm bringing the SX-64. So nothing really too old, and nothing really exciting (to me anyway). Hopefully some other people will find it interesting.
