That girl was TALL! I'm 6'1 and still had some height on me!

No shit! I saw her last week at the ECGE. I'm 5'7" and she made me look like a friggin midget! Lovely to look at, though. I like the Amazon types! :D

The funny thing is up to that point he'd only shown us his Quadrun and Chuckwagon (both pristine) but when I asked if he had a Crazy Climber in the box he said "I'll go out to my car and get it - be right back!" That's when he returned with ALL of the stuff in the photos I took. I made sure to take a few extra of CC though. Me bad! :D

Good luck! I'll be watching it too. :D

Seriously, if anybody finds a Revenge of the Beefsteak Tomatoes they don't remember buying, PLEASE PM ME. This was one of the last two or three items I bought at the show, and should probably have been in the bag with my Commando marquee, but it seems to be missing. I bought it to complete a trade I owe someone, and I'm going to feel really shitty if I lost the cart he needs TWICE. :(

Good news! I found the cart. If you're checking your stuff, stop checking.

Now that I have one less thing to worry about and all my pics are uploaded, I want to take this opportunity to thank some people!

CROSSBOW: Your hospitality and generosity are almost too good to be true, and only equalled by your exceptional wife. You stand for everything that's right about this hobby, and are to be highly commended on one fantastic show!

ALBERT: Once again your tireless (and sleepless) devotion to classic gaming and to representing AtariAge in pride and with style and humor go above and beyond the call of duty, and it's only right we should be so happy to help you out!

SAURON: Your help this weekend was invaluable, and you were the calm amidst the storm whirling around us. Extra special thanks for coming to dinner with us!

ATARI TROLL: I apologize if we didn't have more time to chat, but it was really a trip to see you there and to get to fill you in on our prank in person. I'm glad you're a good sport and such a nice guy to boot!

ROB a.k.a. FLACK: Thanks for helping me test my Super Magic Card and explaining what tools I needed to use to get it to work. More than that though, thank you for being so funny and personable, and for telling me so many great stories!

JEFF C.: Thanks for the many boxed Coleco games, the funky classic gaming collectibles, and for the time we spent getting to rap. I hope to be seeing you at many more shows!

ICBRKR: You really do live up to the name dude - you're the guy who shatters the tension with a laugh or a smile. It was really fun to chill with you (no pun intended) in Tulsa!

Earl a.k.a PDF: I have the feeling given half the chance we could have talked each other's ears off all day, and I wouldn't have minded one bit. Thanks so much for the Lexx DVD's, for letting me try the O2 trackball, and for making me jealous with your stuff! :D

ALL THE VENDORS AND ATTENDEES I DIDN'T YET NAME: I do apologize but I'm tired, going to bed after I check my e-mail account, so let me just say you all know why you rock and why OKGE definitely goes down as one of the friendliest cons I've ever been to. As a matter of fact Tulsa gets high marks across the board on that score! This town really knows how to make you feel warmly welcome, even if you're a Cornhusker. Three cheers for this city and for the OKGE!

* The one (or two) of a kind trackball

Oh man. I need to digitally replace my crotch with Jar Jar in this picture or something. :lolblue: It ain't pretty!

I came home last night, ate, played with my dog and my cats, and promptly passed out in the floor of the living room. Literally.

Anyway, I came to a little whle ago and sorted through my disks and disks of pics...and discovered that I snapped something like 150 shots at OKGE! My sincere apologies to Kent, who manned the PDF table with me - I had no idea I'd left him stranded back there so much. But there was so much to see...

flack1.jpgflack2.jpg

Avast, ye mateys! Pirate Captain Flack (Rob O'Hara) shows off his warez!...erm...wares. :lolblue: GREAT setup - the most distinctive display at the whole show by miles.

brad.jpg

Brad Prillwitz, aka Purenergy. Brad had a SWEET Vectrex setup with one of the coolest controllers I've ever seen. I think someone had to drag me away from it. And then pry the controller out of my hands. I want a Vectrex now...

brian.jpg

Brian Green, aka icbrkr, demonstrated for me the gleefully distrurbing "Torture Mode" of Creatures on the C64. He enjoys this far too much!

messbrad.jpgmessiah.jpg

Brad and Carrie Strahle (PlayMessiah and DeliverMessiah, respectively) of Messiah, makers of some very slick controls - I'm sure neither they nor their product need any introduction by now. But what's up with the following pic?

raffle.jpg

What the hell's wrong with people? Man, the odds were VERY good of walking away with the raffled-off Messiah proto controllers at OKGE! :lolblue:

jesse.jpg

Jesse Hardesty, aka Crossbow, sweats the details and announces another hourly prize drawing.

albert.jpg

Someone's taking pictures of Albert taking pictures...seems like anytime I've pointed a camera at Al at OKGE in the past couple of years, he's been pointing his own camera somewhere else. Wise man! :D

arcade1.jpgarcade2.jpg

The OKGE arcade: all working. Suh-WEET. I haven't played Battlezone in years. Or Gorf! And where else can you spot Carrot Top playing a Neo Geo cab? :lolblue:

gorf.jpggorfzoom.jpg

This Gorf cab was beautiful. And it kicked my ass in sixteen distinctly different directions simultaneously. And speaking of beautiful coin-ops:

joust1.jpgjoust2.jpg

A super-duper-rare Joust cocktail for ONLY $1,400. I tried to trade the owner what's left of my soul for it, but he really only wanted cash.

fatman.jpgfatman1.jpg

Guests expected: the Fat Man! I gotta say, the nifty bluesy jam session, which wandered through everything from Pipeline to Secret Agent Man to Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds to - my favorite - Word Up (!!)...this was some world class entertainment by some excellent musicians. Worth the price of admission alone.

dixon.jpg

Guests unexpected: Larry Dixon, formerly of Origin Systems, graces the PDF table with a visit! My partner-in-crime Kent got his copy of Wing Commander II autographed by both Larry and the Fat Man - and hastily withdrew it from his otherwise enormously successful buck-a-game PC DOS game sale. Methinks he's a-gonna keep it now.

table9.jpg

Kent mans the PDF table.

table4.jpgtable6.jpg

Displaying and playing the early history of video gaming at the PDF table.

trontoys.jpgtronkubs.jpg

There were treats for Tron fans aplenty at the PDF table this year - and take a look at the pic on the left. The lighting was absolutely perfect for that particular display. :D Sorry, just had to brag!

qberts.jpgmoretoys.jpg

Games and toys go hand-in-hand in PDFsville.

game-cds.jpgcclimber.jpg

Vintage game soundtracks and remixes from Japan on display, and Crazy Climber set up to play - with two joysticks, the way God intended us to play Crazy Climber. :D

posters.jpg

Classic gaming and sci-fi collide at the PDF table: lots of people commented on the Doctor Who pinball backglass (and one guy offered me a heap of cash for it, but I politely declined) and the Sega Star Trek poster. And I brought the Intellivision poster along to add the Fat Man's signature to the proceedings.

dad&son.jpgnextgen2.jpg

The family that plays together stays together. (P.S. What can brown do for you?)

pdftable.jpg

Wide shot of the PDF area. Okay, okay, end of brag. I was really proud of our setup this year.

virtuboy.jpg

Virtual Boy goodness at one of the other tables!

peeking.jpg

Another what-the-hell-is-this!? photo: people attending another event peek in from an observation window that I didn't know was there on the second floor! What the hell! Buy a ticket like the rest of us, people! LOL

aakid.jpg

AtariAge: getting the next generation hooked early. The first play's free, kid. The next hit'll cost ya.

Great show - we actually made a buck this year, and after doing some buying and trading myself, came home with the much-coveted Platinum Gamecube (I've been wanting any color GC for about a year now), a 1541 drive from icbrkr, two working 2600s (for the past year and a half or so, I've had none!, more vintage video game toys than I brought with me (thanks to Lynda's Action Figures, who gave me the first crack at what VG-related goodies she had), and...a few select items from the AA table. Amazingly enough, after all this wheeling and dealing, I broke even on the trip and brought home $51 to Mrs. PDF...who had loaned me $50 for the show the day before.

We had a blast meeting everyone - well, almost everyone, I'm not sure if I met Sauron or not, or at least may not have known who he was with regard to the forums - and the show was GREAT this year. I'm ready for next year's. Well, I'm ready for a nap first. And I'm sure Jesse is too!

Many thanks to all involved. :D

Well, OKGE 2004 is over and I must say, it was a smashing success! Once again, Jesse worked his ASS off to put together a fantastic show that I for one had much fun attending. Didn't buy much myself this year, only a copy of Medal of Honor Frontline for the Cube and a PRISTINE copy of Out of This World for the 3DO. Saw a lot of cool stuff, including someone who had almost all the Atari porn games, all in boxes, all with the leather cases and the little padlocks! Totally sweet! He also had a copy of Quadrun, Mr. Do's Castle, Q-Bert's Qubes, Chase the Chuckwagon, I mean like ALL the hardest to find Atari games, and all with boxes. Even though our foosball guy didn't show, that didn't slow things one bit. The free arcade was totally boss (and omg, I forgot how FUN Gorf was!). All in all, I give it two thumbs way up, and I'm already looking forward to next year's show!

Ditto. Kudos to Jesse for pulling the event together. The two-hour trek to Tulsa from Springdale was more than worth it, if only to finally meet some of the posters here live and in person. Great show, and maybe Jesse will do it again next year if enough people pester him :D

To make things even better, I was on the clock as I was being paid by my newspaper (http://www.nwaonline.net) to head over there. My article on the whole thing ought to be out next Sunday. Hopefully, I'll get it right.

Hey, and if anyone hasn't picked up "Star Fire" yet, grab it. What a great game. It's a shame it took a classic gaming convention to motivate me to get it. Honestly, that's one of the best Atari games I've ever seen. Period.

Again, Jesse, great job.

Just wanted to post a quick message before Tim and I head back to Austin. I had a blast at the show and feel there was a marked improvement in attendance and atmosphere over last year's event. The space was about twice the size as last year, and not a single space went unused. It was a pleasure meeting many of you from the forums, as well as many others whom I met for the first time at the show.

I must especially thank Sauron, MegaManFan and MrsMegaManFan for their help before, during, and after the show. Without their help I would have been unlikely to get everything setup in time, I wouldn't have been able to walk about the show floor, and I would have been in the hall until midnight last night tearing everything down and packing up the van. :)

Also thanks to Jesse Hardesty, his wife, and everyone else involved for putting on a wonderful and well-run event!

I took a ton of photos (well over 200) and will post a (large) selection of them in a few days. For now, here's a picture of the AA booth, which was located right near the entrance. We had six Atari 2600 systems, two 5200 systems, and two ColecoVision systems setup, demoing new games as well as works-in-progress all day. Some of the systems are setup in the corner closest to the camera, and another four were setup on the opposite end of our four tables.

Until later,

Just a quick note (because I'm exhausted!)..

I had a blast! It was better than last year, and hopefully next year will be better than this.

I had a hell of a lot of fun hanging out with everyone! Flack, Jordan Hamilton, Brad, Megamanfan, Earl and a bunch of other guys were just great.

Here's my "unedited, no text, quickly thrown together link to pictures":

Well OKGE was my first gaming expo and I have to say I had a lot of fun.

Glad that you enjoyed it!

:)

I also took my lynx but nobody seemed to be playing them so I didnt get to try any multiplayer action.

Sorry about the Lynx multiplayer games. I asked several people at OKGE if they wanted to start a Lynx multi-player game like Warbirds, but no one seemed interested. Although I did forget to bring extra batteries, power paks, or AC adaptors for long Lynx sessions.

:(

Any chance you saw my table with about 50 Lynx games, 3 systems, pouches, cases, etc...., next to a Jaguar set-up?

It was 2 tables down from my Space Invaders competition table.

I also loved all the systems that were hooked up to try. I had never played a Vetrex or Virtual Boy before!-Tim

Did you get to try my Vectorcade joystick for the Vectrex? Everyone that did, loved it, and offered to buy it.

8)

As for the Lynx, maybe we should have planned it different. Possibly have an entire table for Lynx multi-player gaming, with plenty of stuff for everyone.

Fellow OKGE'ers

Just a quick thanks to all for putting on a great show!

OKGE was an event to remember. The best part for me would be meeting everyone in person. There's no substitute for the real thing!

8)

Brad

p.s.

If I do another show like this again, A multi-gaming table will be ready. Whether it's an Atari Lynx set-up, or another console (or multiple consoles) set-up, multi-player action always seems to draw big smiles from everyone.

After my batteries died in my Lynx systems this year, I pulled out a Dreamcast with 4 controllers, and several people enjoyed it, even though it was kind of late (only about an hour left in the show).

I made a short appearance at the show. Wish I could have stayed longer but had my father-in-law show up unexpectingly. :(

I really wanted to buy the Galaga table top game for $1200 but since were moving in a few weeks I didnt have the money  .

That is one of the VERY few games I'd pay $1000 for. I got their number annd may think about this again in a few months. I think I need it for a birthday present to myself in March! :)

The show was really good this year!

Who won the Space Invaders contest? I played a little bit and was doing really dood when my son got into something and I had to leave while I still had all of my guys. I was on a roll too. Getting all of the 300 points for the UFOs and everything. What was the high score?

I finally got a chance to try Hyperdrome for the Lynx at purenergy's table, and to be honest, it wasn't all that great. I really hoped it would be like Ballblazer, but it just seemed weird. I couldn't figure out how to play. I didn't see a ball to put into a goal, I just saw another ship or two shooting at me. Didn't seem all that fun.

I'm looking forward to next year's OKGE. Since I now know which way to drive, I won't get lost for half an hour like I did on the drive up there. And maybe next year I can have both Saturday and Sunday off, so I don't have to drive home immediately afterwards so I could go to work the next day.

Eric,

Here are the winners, listed as they were written (hopefully I'm spelling them right), for the SI competition:

1st: Greg Yarbrough. Scored 3330 points. Hope you enjoy the mini-cocktail controller, and SI anniversary game.

:)

2nd: Lucas DeWady. Scored 3090 points. Hope the clock works, and the T-Shirt fits.

:)

3rd: James Harmon: Scored 2800 points. Hope the T-Shirt fits.

This is just a quick thanks to all of you who came out and were a part of the OKGE this year!

We still don't have the official head count for attendance, but will have an idea on that soon. We do know that a couple of hundred came this year, but something different this year, was that most of them stayed the entire day, or for several hours! This tells me that everyone had a great time, and that there was plenty of stuff for people to see and play.

We will get the pictures posted to the OKGE website soon. Just need to rest a bit...

HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! Tons of pics up already and not a single pic of me! My evil plan to avoid the camera at all costs worked! :D

Anyways, Albert and I just got back into town a few hours ago. This was my first OKGE show (I wasn't able to attend last year), and I had a blast! Unfortunately Al let me sleep through most of the morning, so I didn't make it down to the show until around 11am, and was quite groggy for at least an hour or so afterwards. I also didn't get a chance to chat with a few of the people that I wanted to chat with, but I guess that gives me more reason to head on up there again next year (as if I needed another reason)! 8)

I had to come straight to work after getting back to Austin, so I'll post more in-depth impressions of the show a little later.

Either accidentally (or by Sauron's design) the one or two photos he was in were so blurry (like the shaky one of Al) that I didn't use them. It really must have been on purpose that I don't have a single good snap of him. D'oh!

That reminds me though, I forgot to give shoutouts to SteveW, HawgWyld, and EricDeLee among others. Again I'm sorry for anybody I didn't mention, but I was stoked to see everybody there from different boards, RGVC, and gaming in general. What a show! I haven't even unpacked my haul yet. :D
