elviticus
I recently got the Space Invaders 5-in-1 game... I've got a question about Lunar Rescue (I never played this one in arcades). To anyone who HAS played the original : Are there a bunch of sound effects missing on this port?? The only sound is the jets from your ship - the game would be a lot better with some more sounds!!!! Also, did the original game "auto-land" you on the planets, it would be better if you had to do it manually.. Just wondering, thanks in advance! Gabriel
I got one of these little Space Invaders toys this past weekend. I saw it had Phoenix and Qix among the games and couldn't resist. But I also quickly became a fan of Lunar Rescue. Lunar Rescue seems (from my uneducated position) like something which would easily be ported to the Atari 2600. Was there a version of it for that console? Phoenix and Qix both play at hyperspeed, but they're both fun (Phoenix moreso than Qix).

sku_u
Anyone picked up the new Taito Plug and Play yet? Is it any good? I was looking at the packaging and saw some interesting games listed some of which I haven't seen on any of the modern console collections. SS
What games are included on it? Except for the Atari paddle one, I've pretty much been avoiding the plug-and-plays.
MegaManFan
The only big games I remember seeing on the Taito stick box were Space Invaders and Qix. The other three I'd never heard of. Colony 9? WTF? Save your money for the 30-in-1 C64 if you don't have any of the others. I've bought about a dozen of these things now, including the Flashback, and the only two that weren't crap were the C64 stick and Namco's Ms. Pac-Man stick. sku_u
It's called Space Invaders 5 in 1 and features arcade versions of Space Invaders, Phoenix, Lunar Rescue, Qix and Colony 7. I might pick it up for Colony 7, Phoenix and Lunar Rescue.

I was actually really close to putting down my money on that one ('cuz I'm somewhat of a SI junkie) but then I thought, "how many versions of Space Invaders could one guy really need?" NE146
"how many versions of Space Invaders could one guy really need?" They all will be below par until you get an original mirrored upright (preferably not the Midway version) w/nice holographic playfield over a lit cardboard background and deep cab shaking bass i.e. Space Invaders the way it was originally meant to be presented! And no I don't have one, but I will!
shep
Is this that the Space Invaders one, or is it a new one WITH BUBBLE BOBBLE!

heavy-sixer
I got it when it first came out and I posted a little review of it on my site: Arcade Legends: Space Invaders -- Review. If you can pick it up for under $20, it might be worth your while. I gave it a C+.

And no I don't have one, but I will! You're telling me! I was in heaven the last time that I was able to play one. The "thump thump thump" of the invaders marching is truly mesmerizing. The home ports are (mostly) all just satisfying approximations. One day I'd love to get my hands on a real one.
chrisbid
gamestop is selling these for 15 dollars. space invaders is not accurate, the most obvious difference is that the invaders are all the same width. The gameplay and strategy are pretty spot on though. qix is super difficult, but perhaps it always has been that way as my first exposure to the game was the b&w gameboy version. the qix moves super fast, and sparks go after you if you pause on the playfield for even a split second. i have also never played the arcade version of phoenix, and after playing this version, i give kudos to atari for their 2600 version, this game is fun, and having the shield mapped to the second button makes it a bit easier to me lunar rescue is a very fun game. it has the old space invader type graphics, and slow but deliberate gameplay. i had never heard of this, letalone seen it, and its a shame that it never took off. This wouldve made one heck of a VCS game. Colony 9 feels a lot like the intellivision version of atlantis. the gameplay is a bit too fast though, and its difficult for me to achieve very much. but again, this game gets extra points for being easy enough to learn right away, and being fairly obscure. its material like this that make the stick worth owning, imho overall, i give it a passing grade. the uniqueness of the non popular games give it a "buy it, if you see it on sale" score. though space invaders and qix are going to be disappointments

Lost Monkey
It is not a bad stick, for the money.. it gets more use than the Namco Pac man stick I have... The sound effects are not good though - especially Phoenix.

Dauber
One of my coworkers got each of us in the department the Namco P&P. There are five of us in the department, and four of us were children of the '80s, and at least two of us [myself included] get kind of nerdy about retro '80s stuff. I was really excited to open the package and see this thing...until I played it for the first time just about half an hour ago. The graphics are pretty good -- nearly exact dupes of the originals, save for some aesthetic reformatting that you more or less have to do for TV conversions. (The actual graphics themselves weren't effed with -- just the scores and stuff were moved to the side of the screen so the playable portion was unaltered.) The SOUND, however....ACK! Why duplicate the video but not the sound?!!? Yikes... Do any of the other P&Ps actually duplicate the sound properly??? I've seen these in stores, and admittedly I held off buying these in case I'd find them under the tree, and I'm glad that my coworker didn't drop a load of money on this crap... Oh....and the joystick response is pretty weak as well...
