Who wants to help build the elusive PAL rarity list then?

My first task is to add a title to the database that is known to exist.

My second task is to gather information about the title (not only checking if it's PAL or not, but a hell of a lot more than that).

Atarimania's Taiwan section contains (at the most) ten titles that are stated as PAL, while they could be NTSC.

Again: I will change them into NTSC as soon as I have the proof they are.

Until then, they are PAL, based on my knowledge.

Amen.

ROM,

Maybe you should list the games in question here? There may be someone that knows the correct format...

BTW, I have visited the Atarimania site many times and I can't express how impressive a database it is! You really have done an amazing job  well done!!

Nice.

Atarimania only has scans of these:

That Super-Man Cooper Black box on the left looks very interesting.

What title could be underneath?

There's a picture of a canoo on it, which I've never seen before.

Also, what could be the title of that Black ... on the right?

Black Hole?

Black Pirate?

Excellent, YOK-dfa.

That Super-Man box is one of the most interesting pirate boxes I've ever seen.

It's actually quite cruel.

What title is underneath the sticker?

Fisher Price?

It would be great if you could make bigger scans of the cart fronts and box fronts and backs for me, so I could add them to the Atarimania database.

At the moment i don't have these games here (they are at my parents' place) so unfortunately no high res scans in the near future. I agree with Rom that the Super-man game boxart is pretty weird :) No idea what the title underneath is though... Something else i noticed is the presence of the "fantastic game" carts. I have a bunch of other games from that 'label', but they all came in a different (generic) box. Strange...

Yes, Fantastic Game carts came in different boxes.

Most probably Base Attack (AKA Cosmic Town or Z-Tack).

So you believe that it is the same as the Dynamics release of the same name, thought so. Rom do you mean every box was somehow different for each game? That must have cost the company a lot of money ;)

You mean the Hot Shot release.

Dynamics released it as Laser-Loop.

You are most correct, my bad :D It is easy to get them mixed up ;)

Yes, Fantastic Game carts came in different boxes.

So the big question is how they ended up in these boxes. The person i got them from claimed to be the original owner and he didn't put them in a different box. Could it be the manufacturer/distributer run out of boxes and bought these orange boxes as replacement?? (seeing also how a number of names have a sticker over them with a new name)...

Dear fellow PAL collectors,

I quite frequently use the PAL rarity guide to get a first idea about the rarity of PAL games. Still, according to my own experiences (like how often does a specific game show up on ebay), the rarity entries in the database are somewhat preliminary. But my impression is that a comprehensive discussion based on this Topic only will be very complex. Is it somewhat realistic to start a new Forum (like the Rarity Guide forum, just for the PAL Rarity guide), to collect certain Topics under this new Forum? Do you think this would be usefull? My impression is, it may ease a discussion about the rarities of specific companies (like Home Vision) but also of certain labels (like the Atari red labels) in the PAL world.

What is your opinion?

Staberinde,

Although I don't believe in a 1-10 rarity rating, I think the best thing to do is to pick one manufacturer out (starting with 20th Century Fox), discuss/rate all its PAL releases within one week time and then move on to the next.

Just like the High Score Club.

Otherwise it will become a total mess.

It's Trick Shot, right?

Well no, it's Snooker :D (as usual i don't have the cart right here now, i'll check when i'm in Holland again). I'm still a bit puzzled about the two variantions that these Fantastic Games come in. This orange style box/packaging and the other one (small box, with some scenery on it, black end-label, if i remember correctly). Do you have any theories about that?

Fantastic Game boxes come in different styles:

Fantastic Game comes originally from Taiwan and was sold to several different (Marpes being one of them) distributers worldwide (Brazilian Fantastic Game NTSC carts also exist).

There's a clear connection between Fantastic Game and Suntek (see the game list on the back of the green box, which includes Stone Age!)

The rest you'll have to ask the fortune teller on the label...
