crc_73
Does anyone know if the VMU devices for the Dreamcast controllers are region dependent? For example, one designed for use in Japan, will it work in US and European controllers?
Lost Monkey
No region lockout on VMUs. You can have saves from both regions on the same VMU as well, although for example, a US version of Sonic Adventure will create a separate file from the Japanese version, and neither will read each others save file. crc_73
I thought so. Thanks for the quick confirmation
Agent X
I've got a Japanese VMU, in addition to three US VMUs. I haven't had any problems at all using it on my US Dreamcast. They all function identically when being used as memory cards If I recall correctly, the menus were in the Japanese language on the Japanese VMU if you're using it standalone, so that might be an obstacle for you if you don't know Japanese. The battery mine died long ago, and I haven't bothered replacing it, so I can't check it now.
kisrael
The battery mine died long ago, and I haven't bothered replacing it, so I can't check it now. Those VMUs had serious battery issues. Stupid highpitch squeak! They were a nifty idea, but I think the poor built-in controller plus the battery issue made 'em not so good. And the way my Xbox always forgets the date...when they were modelling it on the PC hardware, they shoulda not gone back to 1983 when you had to type in the date and time on bootup each time. I'll only be using it in an extra controller, not outside, so the Japanese menus won't be an issue for me. Thanks again.
