Shawn
Was the laser disc player that was ment for the 7800 ever released anywhere? Also is there any way to use the expansion port with laser disc player. Am right that it was ment for a LD player? Was there any other rumor an what it was for or anything that actually got made for the expansion port use?
Mot
This port was originally intended to support an extremely advanced LaserDisc™ peripheral for playing games like Dragon's Lair. This LaserDisc™ device is believed to have been scheduled for introduction in 1985 or 1986, however was immediately candled in the summer of 1984 when Jack Tramiel and family took over operations at Atari. This port was incorporated into the first 5,000 production units of the 7800 series system, but was later taken out of the system to cut costs, as Tramiel had no intentions of releasing any nice peripherals in support of the 7800. The Atari 7800 was designed to be flexible and expandable and even had an expansion port for future peripherals to tap into the system bus and video circuitry. One such peripheral was a LaserDisc Interface system.
Godzilla
It would probably have been something like this : http://www.mccw.aktu.nl/93/msxlaserdisc/en.html I own one of those :-)
Ferris
As far as I know, the LaserDisc module was something Atari had intended on developing after the Computer Keyboard had been released, however I've never seen anything solid that would make me think there was ever such a device completed or even started. I think it was just an idea, something Atari under Warner Communications had intended on, and was thrown in the trash heap once Jack Tramiel took over. Then again, who knows whats out there. Clint Thompson
It would probably have been something like this : http://www.mccw.aktu.nl/93/msxlaserdisc/en.html I own one of those :-) You got one of those eh? Did they make U.S. versions or are they only PAL / Japanese? Sounds like an interesting system to own if you could use it..
Classic Pac
and I know for a fact Atari was planning an actual Floppy Drive that would plug in to the expansion port to work along side with the computer. But like everything else that project never made it out of the planning stages.

But if you get the Japanese one, like I did, it's NTSC so you can easily use it in the U.S. It also has the only home version of Astron Belt ever released (the reason I bought it, I'm a huge Astron Belt fan.) Clint Thompson
Thanks Godzilla, you got me really interested in your msx.... sadly I doubt I'll find one anytime soon that's in good working order on top of finding one at a good price. Tempest
Holy crap! They made a laserdisc player for the MSX? Ok now I definetly need to start collecting MSX stuff, that is just too cool. If I wanted to get a system that played the most games, what should I get? I know there are only about 100+ different MSX systems out there. Where is a good place to get info? Lord Helmet
Wow, and I thought Tempest knew everything there was to know about videogame collecting
Tempest
Wow, and I thought Tempest knew everything there was to know about videogame collecting Well in all fairness my knowledge of PAL and Japanese games is limited. I knew *of* the MSX, but never knew they made a Laserdisc attachment. Unfortunately it looks as if there are only 6-8 games for it and you either need a PX-V7 system or the ER-101 expansion module which is ultra rare and isn't compatible with the MSX2 systems (at least I don't think it is). It looks like some games were also released in VHD format but those require a JVC HC-95 system (at least this one is MSX2). Looks like collecting for the MSX systems would give God a headache… Tempest
Godzilla
yes, that is correct. You need the palcom MSX system or the expansion chasis. So to have the ability to play all the msx titles, you would need the palcom + ld as well as a good msx 2+ or higher. You can find any and everything about the many systems here: http://www.faq.msxnet.org/ If you can figure it out, yahoos auctions in japan are a great place to get msx stuff for a fair price. That is where I got my palcom & games (system + 3 or 4 LD games,) for ~$100 (incl. shipping,) Interstellar also recieved it's only home version on the palcom. That is the only palcom title I'm still looking for myself. http://www.funet.fi/pub/msx/photos/gamecov...t_laserdisc.jpg http://www.funet.fi/pub/msx/photos/gamecov...k_laserdisc.jpg http://www.funet.fi/pub/msx/photos/gamecov...screenshots.jpg starfighters is one of the titles I have, thankfully, so I don't have to hunt it down :-) http://www.funet.fi/pub/msx/photos/gamecov...screenshots.jpg http://www.funet.fi/pub/msx/photos/gamecov...k_laserdisc.jpg I love flat poly games
Tempest
So the LD expansion ER-101 is not compatible with MSX2 machines? Only the MSX1? I suppose for MAXIMUM game playage you'd need a JVC HC-95 so you could play the VHD games as well. Tempest
Godzilla
right. the er-101 is also only compatible with certian msx1s. i dont know the exact details. thats why it is much easier to just get a palcom + ld player for the ld games, and a good msx2+ for the rest. I dont know of this VHD you speak of...
Breakpack
How about the RF9er's expansion port that interfaces the Z-72 36 pin AV Out jack in relation to the L5D4 Input.Does that cause glitching in the E44 epidural?
