Marmaduke
Hi, I downloaded a 2600 emulator just to play Congo Bongo (it is my all-time favourite VCS game) and I think that the sega version is NOT the one I played but I can´t find the Coleco version that I owned (I am sure there is a coleco version of the game and I´m sure I played it in a 2600 VCS Black console with four switches wich I still have). Do you know if this version of the game has been dumped?, or do you know of someone who has it for sale (delivering to Central America)? Please Help me, the Sega version sucks compared to the one I played. The cartdrige was "white" with the usual Congo Bongo cover.
Marmaduke
It probably was the Colecovision version, but... How did I got to play it on my 2600 without any add-ons???? Also, do you know of someone selling it who delivers to Central America?
Albert
I just grabbed my 2600 and ColecoVision Congo Bongo carts and took pictures of them. Atari 2600 Cart (by Sega): And here's the ColecoVision cart: I've never seen a white Congo Bongo cart. Could it possibly have been a different game? The ROM you downloaded could also have been misnamed (which I've seen happen before). Since you're in Central America, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that a version (either legit or pirate) of Congo Bongo was released in a white cartridge.. ..Al
Marmaduke
Then I am absolutely and helplessly confused!!!! Maybe was a pirate cartdrige but it was soooo much better than the official version released by Sega. Do you know of groups dedicated to track down such cartdriges, I mean extreamly rare ones such as this?? I swear with Jesus as my witnes that I played this Congo Bongo in my VCS (wich I still own and use), with no add-ons, and the cartdrige was WHITE, and had 3 levels!!!!! you bet I´am confused!!!!!!! Thanks for everyone, you have been so nice for replying to this confused Congo Bongo loving heart.

Albert
Okay, the completionist in me forced me to do this: Atari 800: Commodore 64: Vic-20: ..Al
Albert
Woops, missed two. Atari 5200 (duh!): Intellivision: ..Al
Inky
I notice the Intellivision model is in an Imagic case... The CV Congo Bong kicked butt, along with the CV Tapper (although the 2600 tapper was extremely good)
Albert
quoteI notice the Intellivision model is in an Imagic case... Yeah, there's quite a bit of "case borrowing", especially with companies that produced very few titles for a given system. Guess it was much less expensive to buy someone else's design, or perhaps someone's surplus, then design your own. This sort of thing was very common with Atari 8-bit, Commodore 64 and Vic-20 cartridges. ..Al
Tempest
And just to complete the ultimate Congo Bongo experience here are some pics of the Sega SG-1000 version. Screen shots: http://www.vgmuseum.com/pics3/congo.html Box: http://utenti.tripod.it/faberp/cobo.JPG I couldn't find a scan of the cart but it looks just like the box. Alex
Unless it's some unlicensed pirate version, there is only one Congo Bongo for the 2600. Perhaps you played the Colecovision version (if there is one).
Tempest
How many levels did it have? If it had three then it must be the Colecovision version (which has 3 of the 4 original levels). The Atari 2600, 400, and 5200 versions all had only 2. There's also a version for the Sega SG-1000 which looks a bit different than the arcade version (and other home systems). Could that be the version your thinking of? Tempest
Marmaduke
No, its NOT the Ti-99 one it definetly looked like a regular Coleco cartdrige developed for Atari, regular Atari size, but White. Its a mistery, but thanks a lot everyone.
