You're making this a lot more difficult than it needs to be.  Sure it's impossible to simulate some random circuit in real time.  But these games are clocked like any other game.

Some are, some aren't. Some games used analog RC timing circuits to generate vertical and horizontal positioning. By the look of it, Fonz probably did so to some extent. As such, an accurate simulation would have to take into account things like temperature, capacitor aging, and other such effects. Unlike some games which operate entirely via clocked digital logic, where two machines of the same make and model should behave 100% identically, the analog video games will all behave slightly differently. A real game might have a 'feature' that causes roads to get wavier as the player goes longer because a the audio amp generates more heat when the user as playing. Such behavior would generally be impossible to really quantify, and thus impossible to emulate.

BTW, I wonder what all was on the 8-track tape that came with Fonz, and whether anyone put in their own sounds?

Since the screenshot doesn't show anything besides the player character (overlay?), such a homebrew or hack could be anything.  Like hacking Enduro (tho really, it should be reverse-engineered to remove Enduro aspects like weather conditions/night transitions, and the counter changed to be a timer up to 100 seconds).

A CHALLENGE TO ALL

I challenge anyone to make either a homebrew of or hack an existing game (River Raid, Dukes of Hazzard?) into Fonz.

The reward for pulling off this, the grandest of all arcade ports will be 2 packs of Camel cigarettes 2 Pac Man cartridges and 1 Hohner harmonica sent personally to you via mail from Sandmountainslim :)

I have decided to remove the harmonica from the offer

The offer of the cigarettes and Pac Man carts still stands :)

Has anyone considered making a homebrew of or hacking an existing game into a port of the old arcade game Fonz? I remember thinking the cabinet looked cool when I was a kid but the game really had nothing to do with Happy Days, just a motorcycle racing game as best I remember. Would be cool to see this one on the VCS :)

Better late then never this was very hard to try to fine any origainl acade art of this game and there's almost thinging out there to use and what I say almost cuase I only found one Sega arcade flyer of Fonz and it shows what I see of him on the sideart so I look and fine any photos of him and try to match the arcade sideart of the Fonz arcade by hand drawing him and him on the bike but I did it I even drew the title name and made this label art if any one wanted to use it

Great Job!

I would say that would be the perfect label.

I told you it wasn't very much :) -

It is close, I notice you are using mulitcolor so maybe 128 blue for Fonz slacks, and 0 black for top of Fonz hair?

Maybe a little rounder head too, but I know this is early, oh and bent arm like he has his thumb up saying heyyyyyyyyy!

Cool!

Pretty cool after play testing this, I could see this as being a sort of reverse of the Journey game, so Fonz is walking downwards towards the score as the screen scrolls up with I don't know maybe "nerds" for fonzie to beat? And every now and then the police try to get the Fonz I can't remember that officer's name oh I think it was Curt Sheriff Curt.

Cool game keep it up! :D

Oh I see that would make it more difficult, ok keep up the good work on this, it seems to have some good potential. ;)

After thinking long and hard on what I could make a Fonz game based on what little programming ability I have, I decided to make an "Ants"-like game, but with obstacles. I don't have any idea what the Fonz could be after over and over again, since I don't watch "Happy Days," and the obstacles are just your basic cardboard box.

Here's a better build of what I'm trying to do here. The Fonz can go after either girl (I'd have only one to go after if I knew how) and once he gets her, he goes back to the starting place and another one pops up on the screen. And you have 3 lives, and you lose one if you run into those big boxes. Note in this build there is no game over screen. Just want to know if I should work on this some more.

Ok, time to step in here. I am not a programmer, but i have been involved in film and video stuff in the past and some of the same elements apply. Now, this is by no means to take away from the work you have done so far. In fact, its evolution so far has been pretty neat.

But, first things first. if you insist on making this a Fonz game, for reasons I cannot fathom, and currently not having it based on that ancient arcade game, then you need to do some research. You have two potential Tv shows to work with. One is Happy days which I think still airs on TV Land and has in some form or another pretty much aired since it was on.

Watch a few episodes from a few seasons and learn the character and concepts. The girls as the prize is a good start though. But, you need to determine enemies and locals.

The more fun idea for a VIDEO GAME, though would be to use the Fonz Cartoon show as the source material...

Henry Winkler provided the voice of the character as Fonz, Ritchie, and Ralph Mouth...I shit you not...TRAVEL THROUGH TIME, trying to get back to 1957.

If anything begs for a 2600 game, this is it!

I already told him Captain Curt or Curk?

The police captain, he hated Fonzie and always wanted to put him "behind bars where he belongs" to quote the captain.

This because the Fonzie was once the gang leader of the Lords street gang, and still has friends in them every now and then when it came time for "raising TV ratings" and a Rumble Fight. As a matter of fact I remember how him and Richie meant, Fonzie was going to beat the tar out of Richie but they became friends.

Fonz was so much a part of Happy Days it is almost hard to believe of the original Happy Days before Richie meant Fonzie.

That was clear back when Richie had an Older brother that left for college never to be heard from or thought of again.

But the count Malachi was another one, I had forgotten about.

Then there was Tom Hanks too, with his Karate.

There were a few other enemies even mafia if I remember correctly an episode, that Fonz actually needed the help of his friends to overcome.

Fonz became a superhero, as you know. His finger snaps, his thumbs up, and bumping things, had a kind of telepathic or telekinetic power. This reached a zenith when he duelled Mork. I think that would be a good videogame scenario. Also jumping the shark, of course, or jumping cars (ala Stunt Cycle).
