Jess Ragan
http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1568 851806[/snapback] "Hello, McDonald's? I'd like to have a Whopper, please." There's no reason we can't have a discussion about the 3DO HERE. In fact, let me get the ball rolling with a handful of my own personal recommendations. Gex- A pretty decent side-scrolling shooter. The level designs aren't as clever as Super Mario Bros., and the gameplay isn't as solid as the Sonic games, but it offers larger stages and more variety than Donkey Kong Country and its sequels. Super Street Fighter II Turbo- It's a great conversion of the arcade game, very nearly on par with the Playstation and Saturn versions. There's only one caveat... you'll need to find a controller worthy of this superb game, a tough thing to do when you've got a 3DO. Wing Commander IV- The amusing cut scenes starring Mark Hamill (finally playing someone besides Luke Skywalker or The Joker) make this antiquated science fiction flight simulator more entertaining than it otherwise would have been. Samurai Shodown- One of the more ambitious home conversions of SNK's popular fighting game. If you weren't satisfied with the Genesis or Super NES ports of Sam Sho, but can't afford a Neo-Geo, you might want to check this out. The Horde- Another one of those 3DO games that's worth playing just to watch a big star from the 1980's embarass himself for a buck. The actual game's not bad, either... sort of a cross between Sim City and Diablo. JR
Dr. Morbis
The 3D0 port of Road Rash is one of the best games in the system's library and, for me, reason enough alone to own the console.

Also, as long as it's not an inherently defective Goldstar unit, any 3DO is good. FZ-1, FZ-10, Sanyo, etc.
Lemmi
Here is alittle back history http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...ic=64449&hl=3do http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9317 http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=27092 http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28560 http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=32290 i have all the US released 3DO games and i think ive played maybe 60% of them my favs are Road Rash, Horde, Gex, Captain Quazar, Corpse Killer, Dragon Lore, Drug Wars, Family Feud, Gunslinger Collection (3 Gun Games), The Need for Speed, PO'ed, Return Fire, Shockwave, Twisted, Super Wing Commander, Wing Commander III
Clint Thompson
OR if your looking for something to make you sick (literally!) and want to KILL SOME TIME for real (by blowing chunks for 25 mins, seriously!) You should check out (drumroll please): Killing Time! That has got to be one of the choppiest games I've ever played. Ran around in it for about 30 minutes and soon after had to take an extensive "bathroom" break. I'll never play that game again.
glitch
All of the games listed above are excellent (sans Killing Time ). My recommendations would be: First Picks Cannon Fodder (never played any other version so I can't say how it compares but it's a lot of fun) Gex The Horde Lemmings (a bit blurry though) Return Fire (probably my favorite on the system) Return Fire: Maps O' Death Star Control II (my second favorite) Second Round - Good games but the above are better Captain Quazar (Good graphics, humerous storyline but does get old after a bit) Twisted: The Game Show (just because it's unique) Samurai Shodown Lucienne's Quest (nice anime-like RPG) Johnny Bazookatone (fun side scroller. GEX is better though) The Incredible Machine (if you like the PC version) D (I may be alone on this one though) There are many other decent games but those are my top favs. As a note of warning there are also a lot of real stinkers in the 3D0 lineup. On a general note stay away from any of the adult titles, ESPECIALLY Plumbers Don't Wear Ties. I want my 2 hours from my life back.

Sorry to ruin the party but Gex isn't a side-scrolling shooter. Eh, at least you tried to explain it. It's a decent action game that's worth a try. Super Street Fighter II Turbo- It's a great conversion of the arcade game, very nearly on par with the Playstation and Saturn versions. There's only one caveat... you'll need to find a controller worthy of this superb game, a tough thing to do when you've got a 3DO. I've heard this is THE console version to own but I can't say for myself since it's pretty much the only console version I haven't tried. I know STD Entertainment made a nice SNES-esque pad with 6 buttons (which also worked great for Road Rash). Guardian War is a somewhat decent strategy/grid based action game that I gave quite a bit of time too. I'd recommend it if you're into those sort of games. Jess Ragan
I meant platformer! Platformer! Arrgh, I'm losing my video game nerd street cred! Seriously, it was a slip of the tounge. I'll try not to let it happen again! JR
masschamber
Super Street fighter 2 turbo is incredibly good, easily the systems best games and definately the best port of the game, the load times are shorter then the saturn or playstation versions and the character animation is all there , some of the background animation is missing but it's not enough to take away from the game, and the remixed soundtrack is great, you can get snes adapters just make sure you get one that allows you to use a 4 face buttons and not force you to use select. Otherwise the 3do pad isn't perfect but the game is still great with it, just map your least used button to x
Flojomojo
Need for Speed -- the definitive version, with lots of silly FMV. Star Control II -- a bit redundant since we now have Ur-Quan Masters as freeware, but this works well with the 3DO controllers on the big screen. Wing Commander III -- super-fast fast loading! This alone makes the 3do version superior to the PC, Mac, and Playstation editions. Fun little game, but waaaay more fun because of the B-movie within. Road Rash, as stated in other posts. That's a nice start. Note that you can run "backup" copies in the FZ-10 if you burn them at 2X speed.
Flojomojo
ooooh ... lest I forget, Wolfenstein 3D is very nicely done here. The graphics of the Macintosh/Jaguar version, with CD music, and more levels than any other version. Second only to the XBOX hidden game. Duke 4ever
I agree, the 3DO version of Wolfenstein 3D is great. My favorite game so far for 3D0 would be Wing Commander 3.

I was just pointing to another list already in progress because I was too lazy to post But you might be right, so here's my favorite 3do games: Battlesport Road Rash IceBreaker Return Fire Twisted

Why'd I bother, since I don't have anything to play them on? They only cost 25¢ each! If you need an adapter, let me know. The flea market has plenty more out there. atarilovesyou
...The need for Speed was, at the time, the best driving game out there, not really for the controls, as it was pretty lunky (you had to use the interior view for best results)...but, at the end of each race, this FMV dude would come out and let you know how you did...and after you got really good at it, he'd basically kiss your ass...which was no small feat (both due to the size of said ass AND the difficulty of the game)...get this one for sure. Stay away from the Doom port, though ....STINKS.
DeV0
Need 4 speed 3do is without doubt the best version out there. The controls are way better then the ps and sat versions. Im getting into shockwave at the moment and i dont really mind Killing Time all that much, wolfenstein is also a good port. Ive got way too many games that havent been played yet but im yet to hit a real piece of crap

At least with the adult titles you get some 6th rate video to look at. Once you play Mazer, play Bust a Move for a few hours to get that hellish horror out of you head. lol
SteveW
I remember reading a review of Mazer in a game magazine (probably GameFan) when it came out. They were amazed that the same company that put out all those FMV games like Mad Dog McCree and Drug Wars would suddenly attempt to make a 'real' game. I liked their jokes about the acting in the company's FMV games being the same quality as '70s porno movies.
SimonTemplar
Is anyone into Psychic Detective? I got "grand slam" the other day, and I never used any strategy guide. It just happened like that. I think this game is the best 3do game ever made. I just wished they make a "psychic detective II" for the modern consoles.
