New Flashback 2.0 Pictures from E3!

I believe the "vector" Asteroids hack written for the Starpath Supercharger (and featured on the Stella Gets a New Brain CD) predates any of the hacks being discussed on this thread.

In any case, can we get over ourselves? Nukey is right, there are people on this thread in need of a pint of a lie-down. The arcade original used vector graphics, so it's not like ANYONE on this board, Ed Logg excluded, is entitled to claim they did it first, better, etc. Come back when you can render rocks that look like these on the VCS, then we'll talk.

That reminds me, I was watching the extras on SW: Empires Strikes Back and the special effects guy said that when they filmed the asteroid field, the ones in the far background were actually potatoes :)

I always liked asteroids, any version. It was our Christmas cart in 82 along with the system and Combat.

I can remember being like 11 or 12 years old... I was on vacation with my family (it was like.. 1991 or something...) and we were staying at some Holiday Inn that was kind of old looking, they had some OLD ass games... they had the original Asteroids, Super Pac Man, and Zaxxon....

I can remember blowing like 10 bucks on the Asteroids game...

i could of tought you how to "play" asteroids back then and you probably would still have $9 left to show for it.

<-- Played asteroids over 12hrs with 1 quarter 8)

Definitely an awesome game....

What's the trick?

Isn't there like a spot that you can sit where the asteroids won't ever go?

By the way, I live in Fort Lauderdale too... (Cooper City specifically).

Meteroids is not a hack ;)

OK, not a hack. Are you sure about the name? I find neither "Meteroids" nor "Meteoroids" in the AA database, and I'm feeling confused. :dunce:

Why am I more excited about the Flashback 2 than the XBOX 2 or PS3? Maybe because I know what it will actually do, when, and for how much?

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way at the moment.

Actually, that pic would have more in common with Blasteroids instead of Asteroids

Ahhhh, Blasteroids. What a great game! Awesome multiplayer action. I thought I was the only one that remembered that game!

HEY! :)

Don't think for a second you're ignoring my RR question w. that avatar (#92).

Its not so much a trick as it is a technique 8)

Im mostly moving @ top speed from the bottom of screen going straight up over and over in the middle & then when a small ship comes out the side you just let off the thrust, turn your ship facing the direction that the enemy ship came out and just sweep fire at him.

then hit thrust again and repeat over and over. every 10 ships is an extra man.

I try my best to rack up my score and all my extra men without going beyond 5 or 6 boards cleared all while I play for hrs & hrs & hrs on one quarter :P

Ofcourse you need to save a few small asteroids that are stuck together to really pull it off. Fast or slow asteroids for me wont matter! It would be easier to show you @ grandprix or on the PC 8)

I just got to play this for the first time, since I just got my second Stelladaptor (sadly, I didn't order the cartridge when I had the chance *sniffle*). Really fun hack, Thomas! You've made me love the driving controller for space games. Now it seems weird that Atari didn't use a spinner control on the arcade machine...

 Meteoroids is the orginal name of the game which later was changed into Suicide Mission.

Thank you. I feel like you just defragmented my brain. In a good way. :)
