ComputerCollector
I have a TRS-80 model 4, and I have a couple of external disk drives. This is what the bottom of the computer looks like. The slot for the disk drive is located next to the printer cable slot: Edited June 3, 2005 by ComputerCollector
ComputerCollector
here is a picture of a standard 5-1/4" disk drive cable: Edited June 3, 2005 by ComputerCollector
ComputerCollector
However, I belive that here should be a twist in the cable. Here is a picture of a twist in a standard PC disk drive cable:
ComputerCollector
So my question (to a fellow TRS-80 owner) is this: So that I might build myself a correct TRS-80 external disk drive cable, can you please post a picture or diagram of what the cable looks like? JB
*sighs* CROP! RESIZE! WE DON'T NEED THE RAW 3.7 MEGAPIXEL IMAGE! MUCH LESS SIX OF THEM! Without having a TRS80, or being able to see the pictures, I'd bet the drive ID is set on the drive itself and it really DOES use a straight-line cable. The twist in IBM-compatible floppy cables is a primitive form of cable-select drive indexing.
Hydian
That's not a model 3...the Model 3 was gray and the model 4 was white. I can't see enough of the pictures to see what computer it actually is.
ComputerCollector
Its a model 4. I have no idea why I typed in a "3". Im going to try to edit the pictures to make them smaller.

I strongly recommend IrfanView if you don't already have something capable of resizing decently. It's free, it's small, and it works well for what it does. http://www.irfanview.com/
Hydian
I'm pretty sure that the twist is for 3.5" drives. Don't quote me on that though as it's been a while since I've even looked at a 5 1/4" floppy drive. I should have a cable someplace in my bins o' crap. I can try to dig one out this weekend. If you have a multi-style cable, you'll note the twist is before BOTH B: connectors.
