Lord Thag
Anyone else impressed by this? What a fun game! It even has a password feature, scrolling status updates between levels, and persistent damage and stats. I'm assuming this is a hack of Pole Postition? If so, it was a great job! The Flashback 2 is impressing the hell out of me, sound issues nonwithstanding. Anyone else playing this game?
Ferris
Fatal Run was released in Europe for the 2600 late in the system's life sometime I think in 1991 or 1992. Not a bad game.
davidbrit2
Yeah, wasn't it the only 32KB game or something?
SteveW
I've always loved the 7800 version, I'm hoping the 2600 version will be just as good. I'm plugging in my Flashback2 right now!
Tempest
Here's my take on it. I didn't care for it... http://www.atariprotos.com/2600/software/f...un/fatalrun.htm Tempest
ZylonBane
Fatal Run always seemed to me like an attempt to cross Road Blasters with... a bunch of complicated crap. The requirement to purchase ammo/fuel/armor/repairs at every city makes it far too easy to get in a situation where you're screwed because you can't afford all that stuff. And you NEED that stuff, because the AI cars mercilessly ram you. Meh.
SteveW
I just tried it. The physics in the 7800 version are much better, making it easier to avoid the opponent's cars. It's a lot easier to lose all your armor from being sideswiped over and over on the 2600 version than with the 7800. I do like the Game Over screen, though. Atari-Jess
I've loved Fatal Run since I first picked up the ROM for it. I'd eventually like to get my hands on a ntsc repro, but I'll wait. Once I played the 7800 version and figured out how to WIN, the 2600 version just got even better!
Ferris
I don't want to put down a game that I loved on the 7800 and I'm sure I will enjoy on FB2, but to this day I'm dissapointed that I was stiffed with Fatal Run when we should have had RoadBlasters. The 7800 could have handled RoadBlasters just fine. It's a shame that the rift between coin-op and home consumer was so deep by the late 1980s that we never got these great titles on the 7800. Same goes with Paperboy, Marble Madness, Indiana Jones, Peter Pack Rat, and Tetris.

Ferris
I do blame that on the Tramiels. I think people that follow my posts on a regular basis know I blame *everything* on the Tramiels, so I didn't even bother pointing out the obvious. Blaming the Tramiels is a good rule of thumb. Lose your job today? Blame the Tramiels! Burger King eff up your order? Jack's fault! Seriously though, it's because of Jack and the way Warner handled things during the very last days that we never were graced with such wonders as 7800 RoadBlasters, 7800 Tetris, 7800 Paperboy, etc. Whatever. Lord Thag
Interesting. I didn't know the game had a hsitory behind it. I'm still trying to figure out how to get very far in the game. Any tips for us folks who haven't played it? The FB 2 manual is, shall we say, useless.
