slydc
Hi Folks! Just wondering which BASIC games are quite fun to play ? I do have some few in minds like these games: * Atlantis (not the one by Imagic) * Kitten * Stip Poker So, which BASIC games you like folks ? Gury
There are many good games, but most of them very slow (Atari BASIC) compared to commercial machine language games. Turbo BASIC make big difference in speed, thanks God. Some of them are worthy to make compiled Turbo BASIC versions.
Goochman
Mars Tesoro Gateway to Apshai and add on modules (original release, not re-release) Theres a few more but overall the non-basic games were the best
Big Player
Any J. D. Casten game. Biffdrop is my favorite of the bunch.
kevin242
Off the top of my head: Gateway to Apshai and Temple of Apshai Rear Guard (wierd defender clone) Some helicopter game sort of like choplifter but better gfx (cant rem the name) Scram Black Jack (the one that talks) "Place yer bet!" There were a few good basic text adventures one was called Adventure in the fifth Dimension. It's kind of tricky whether some type in games from magazines were basic or machine language games, since most of the work was done in machine code, but if you count them then you would need to consider: Filler Up (Qix clone) and Livewire (Tempest) I know there are some other good Basic games, but I cant think of them at the moment. ZylonBane
Ummm, the Gateway to Apshai and Temple of Apshai games I played were both pure machine language. Second the motion for anything by J.D. Casten. That man was a BASIC game design god. James Hague's "Uncle Henry's Nuclear Waste Dump" is also a good one.
Allas
The best Atari Basic I remember is Just a great german program SKI EDITOR with MAPs Editor and game is in Basic. Only you load any map like PAC and just play. Good sound, good motion. Edited August 20, 2005 by Allas
Jeff Lodoen
Ummm, the Gateway to Apshai and Temple of Apshai games I played were both pure machine language. The original Temple Of Apshai (© 1982 on Atari) was definitely in BASIC. Press BREAK and you can LIST it. Upper Reaches of Apshai and Curse of Ra were add-ons requiring Temple. Gateway To Apshai was an ML game little connection to Temple. Fun in it's own right. Temple Of Apshai Trilogy was an ML revamp of the original series. Plastron
OK please correct me if i am wrong but i think Wild Strewberries was a basic game and the was very good in fact if anyone has it i would like a copy. I think i typed it in out of one of the Mag's from the time. You had a few platforms and ladders idea was to dig a hole and the strewberries would fall in you had to hit them when they were trapped in a hole. But i have been drinking so this could all be in my dreams :-) Andy

Gury
I played Leadboard Golf very often. When I will have time, I will go through all Antic, ANALOG, Page 6 and Hi-Res magazine type-in games. Anyway, I will do this, because my goal is collect all Atari 8-bit games ever created (BASIC and machine language games). My site is http://freeweb.siol.net/diomedes/ and new update will be prepared very soon (with new games and error fixes which viewers reported to me till now. All of them will be noted. Thanks). Gury
Ow, you are working on same project? O, my... It's my hobby, so I can't leave it I will not compete with you, of course, it's my own project with no purpose to steal something from others. When my site is finished, I will contact C64 lemon site to add atari 8-bit game links to their existing links for comparing C64 with Atari ST, Amiga and Spectrum version of games. You said you know for type-in games? So... I can type some of them when time permits... Send me scanned source codes and let me try.

Well, yes, it's the main purpose of our site: http://www.atarimania.com/lst_soft-MENU-8-...ERSION_ID-.html When my site is finished, I will contact C64 lemon site to add atari 8-bit game links to their existing links for comparing C64 with Atari ST, Amiga and Spectrum version of games. We also had this idea but it's pretty hard to implement at the moment. You said you know for type-in games? So... I can type some of them when time permits... Send me scanned source codes and let me try. With pleasure, I'll send you a link once the sources are uploaded If other people are interested in typing in listings, please let us know. -- Atari Frog http://www.atarimania.com
