ratfink
Since I've upgraded to Windows XP my "Intellivision Lives!" disc won't work. They are now offering an upgrade for $10 (plus a 2nd disc for $30). They seem like good people so should I just buy these or is Bliss any good? I tried one of the early versions and couldn't get it to work at all. Any other INTV emus out there besides these two? Room 34
I am using a Mac so I can't say what emulator is best for the PC, but I would just say, I think you should support Intellivision Lives! because it is made by the guys who were actually Intellivision programmers back in the day! If you own a legal copy of Intellivision Lives then you should have the 2 .bin files necessary to meke InTVWIN work. InTVWIN works perfectly with XP and you will not need to upgrade then as Intvwin is Freeware, not Shareware. Adam
liveinabin
I really want a decent Mac Intellivision emulator to play Tron Solar Sailer on, so it'd need speech compatibility. There doesn't seem to be one and, because of its Tron license, none of the BlueSkyRangers packs contain it. I actually HAVE an Intellivision and TSS but, though I love the game, I can't play it on that worthless piece of s**t - the controllers put my hands into spasm after about a minutes play! Oh for a decent solution to that controller problem! I'd happily crack open my INTV and solder the hell out of it if I could get a hint of what to do! I know the INTV controller thing is an old topic but BLOODY HELL!! What were those guys thinking??!?
Room 34
Since I am not that well-versed with the Intellivision (I only own 9 carts for my Intellivision system), any emulation is OK by me, so the Intellivision Lives! packs are enough to fill that void on my iBook. (I spend most gaming time on my iBook with Deimos Rising, anyway!) As for the controllers... I also HATE the Intellivision controllers (easily my biggest complaint about the system), and I hate the fact that they are wired right into the box. I haven't disassembled my Intellivision yet, so I'm not sure what I'll encounter inside... are the controllers' wires actually soldered directly to the board inside, or do they plug in, like the RCA cable inside a 2600? If it is the latter, what kind of plug is it? BTW, Liveinabin... that new avatar is even better than the Luigi one!
liveinabin
haha, thanks man! The intellivision controller leads do in fact plug in, though its a pretty nonstandard connector. I found the controller pinouts online and, for a while, I've been meaning to replace the accursed things with modified Jaguar controllers (which would be perfect) - while there are mods online to replace the 16 way springy button thing with an 8 way pad, that and translating the keyboard matrix from Jag to INTV just gave me too many headaches. I can't be that difficult, but I know nothing about electronics so I won't be the one to do it:)
liveinabin
Oh wow, Room 34 - after reading your post I decided to aquaint myself with Deimos Rising. Oh MAN! What a fantastic game! Thanks for that:)
Lost Monkey
Since I am not that well-versed with the Intellivision (I only own 9 carts for my Intellivision system), any emulation is OK by me, so the Intellivision Lives! packs are enough to fill that void on my iBook. If it is the latter, what kind of plug is it? Be very wary when taking apart and putting Intv's back together. I find that almost half the time they cease to work normally after a dis-assembly... until you re-screw every screw etc... Some of the screws can't be too tight and some can't be too loose. Mr. Intellivision is just a little Mr. Cranky Pants!
liveinabin
Oh, I've been OK with all my hamfisted doings inside the INTV, but I think I had the power of apathy on my side - I just didn't care if it worked when I put it back together:)
Room 34
Oh wow, Room 34 - after reading your post I decided to aquaint myself with Deimos Rising. Oh MAN! What a fantastic game! Thanks for that:) No problem! Yes, it is great. Ambrosia has always been great with "modernized" versions of classic arcade games, but I think Deimos Rising is a new plateau. Maelstrom = Asteroids Apeiron = Centipede Swoop = Galaxian Barrack = Qix Bubble Trouble = Pengo Mars Rising (and now Deimos Rising) = Xevious You Windows users out there may be happy to know that Ambrosia is dabbling in Windows versions of their games now, and in fact they have a Windows port of Deimos Rising underway.
