Chickybaby
Just for a heads up: After calling a couple stores I found that this was a permanent In-Store markdown (at least in those 2 places)and from what it sounded like it's cause they won't be carrying many games anymore. They also didn't have most of the big name titles and had "small tables" only. Won't stop us from trying anyway! SteveW
The nearest location to me is still a half hour drive, and I know that they won't have the games that I want. They'll only have the same lame titles that they've been trying to get rid of for three years. I think I'll pass. kisrael
Yeah, I figure it's worth a shot. Poor KB. They were the only store with a lot of toys when I was a kid in a medium size town. What's the difference between a "KB Toys" and a "KB Toy Works", anyway? I see 'em talking about the different formats but not what each one is supposed to be. Tempest
I think KB's problem is that they're poorly managed. When I was younger (back in the 80's) they seemed to be run alot better than they are now. Today they seem to be small, crowded with crap, run by people who don't know the products and don't seem to care, and usually waaaaay over priced (still selling games that have been marked two times at other stores for full price). There's a KB about 5 minutes from where I work, I'm going to check them out after work and see what I can find. IIRC the store is really small, so I'm not expecting much. Too bad they closed the big one that was near my house. Room 34
Man, I didn't realize this chain had fallen so far. They only have 2 stores in Minnesota now and they're both at outlet malls. Back when I was a kid, they had a store in my hometown of 25,000 people, as well as in just about every other mall in the state. (In fact, I have fond memories of buying many Atari games at that store, even the dreaded Pac-Man! ) Too bad... guess I'll be missing out on this deal. Tempest
I went to my local store today, and the selection was mixed but not very interesting. I was able to pull out the following for $10 each: Wario Ware Inc. (GC) Metroid Fusion Metroid Zero Mission (no instructions) The games were obviously display copies (stickers came off easily though), but the price was right. The Metriod Zero Mission box was a bit crushed, but I don't mind. I'd love it if someone could pick me up a Donkey Konga with the Bongos and Jungle Beat. I can't believe that they would be selling them for $10, but I'm game. Advance Wars 2 for a buck would be awesome as well. Anyone see a copy of Phantasy Star Online 3 C.A.R.D in those bins? SteveW
I don't think the problem with Kay*Bee Toys is the management, it's because the entire toy retail industry has changed. In the '80s, where else would you go to buy toys? Toys 'R Us, and Kay*Bee. But nowadays, with Wal-Mart stores dotting the nation, and consumers generally getting lazier, your average overweight middle aged housewife would rather go to one store to shop than half a dozen shops catering to specific markets, like toys, shoes, clothes, or food. Toys 'R Us is suffering pretty badly too, getting close to bankrupcy last year. The retail market has evolved, and it's left toy stores behind. But there's still only 2 places in the nation you could find Terminator 2 toys last year. One of them was eBay. The other was KB Toys. Only one of those places was still paying attention to suggested retail. It wasn't eBay. Generally, hjaving old stock lying around for a DECADE indicates a failure SOMEWHERe.
