The company's Atari Flashback 2, a plug-and-play console that features classic Atari games, shipped about 450,000 units in the US and accounted for almost a quarter of the company's revenues in the past quarter.

It's amazing what can be done if you have a quality product.

I tell ya,  @ 1.28 per share I would spend 128.00 plus 15 fee for a 100 shares.

Yeah, it kinda stinks that the FB2 is the only bit of good news to come from Atari last quarter, and they're hemorrhaging (sp?) cash, but the FB2 doing well out of the gate is sunshine on a rainy day... ;)

This just reaffirms my faith in classic games and classic gaming in general. Atari/Infogrames has tried to make money developing modern licensed 3D games like everyone else, and their record has been mixed at best. At a bad time, they turn back to the classics, and the next thing you know, it plays a major role in keeping the company afloat. I don't see their next Matrix game setting the world on fire, so they'd better hurry up and get the FB3 off the drawing boards.

Totally. I've heard this called a "retro fad craze" since 1995. That's like calling ELvis and the Beatles a "fad craze."

Today's games are photorealistic, but that doesn't mean that they are fun. Pac Man is still fun after all this time, and always will be. Ditto for PONG.

The Atari style is just that–a STYLE. Blocky and bleepy, but still FUN. It is not antiquated old shit, and every new piece of crap a total blast to play just because you have an entire orchestra playing during the 3D CG cinema cut scenes.

Like I've said for a long time now, gimme a game such as Adventure, and give it dozens of ducky dragons and a monster size playing field---use the Atari 2600 style and make it huge, and I'm BUYING.

Offer another Matrix turd and I'm IGNORING.

Ya hear me, Atari?

You know, I think there really is a lot of potential in the Adventure "brand" (if you can call it that).

Think about it... Legend of Zelda is basically an extension of the premise of Adventure, and Nintendo has milked it a thousand different ways (and not just spewing out crap... the games are consistently great). Atari could take the Adventure concept, dress it up a bit (again Zelda shows how much room there is for re-envisioning), expand it a LOT, and give us something great.

The main reason I wanted to get the FB2, after all, was for Adventure II!

Maybe they should hire a new CEO who can be more profit oriented as opposed to game development oriented. Perhaps someone who specializes in both success in big business and classic old school video gaming. It sounds like their former CEO was a bit of a dolt. I wonder who..

Some people just don't understand Adventure games and how more in depth they can be over the myriad number of shooter games. This Globe and Mail Flashback 2 review praises most of the games, but the author just doesn't get Adventure games. I don't know if the people in charge of making those decisions, besides Curt, knows what gems they have in their hands.

It's also maybe a good sign for future 'console' development.

Hopefully they just *might* take the hint that if they offer a quality product people will buy it especially if it relates to classic gaming and good gaming in general.
