Hi there!

As stated elsewhere, the compo may start earlier this year. Here's an info blip straight from the Mini Game Compo Homepage:

this year the category's will be run seperately to reduce judging hassles

probably 1k for 2months

4k for 5months

8k for 7months

with some overlap between start and end dates between the categories

more details when the compo starts

8K sounds good to me

Greetings,

Manuel

I think spreading out the contests will turn out to be a good move. I will try hard to finish Four-Play in time for the 4K comp. I might try another 1K game too. (And this time I'll know that sound effects during the game are more important than music after a victory.)

@Cybergoth, any chance you'll try your hand at a 1K game this year?

Hi there!

Nice!  Should be able to get the complete Colony 7 in 8k, right?  :D

That is the plan, yes :)

probably 1k for 2months
I think this isn't quite enough time. I'd suggest 3 months...

Well, just start now ;)

Oha... hm... don't think so. I don't like working in such a limited environment

Greetings,

Manuel

I'll have a 4K game ready by August. I'm not sure which one I'll submit, but Stellar Fortress is the farthest along.

Are we allowed to make more than one submission for the same category? I didn't see any mention of this in the rules. The "one game, one vote" in the FAQ seemed to only apply to the same game across multiple systems.

If yes, I'd like to submit Stellar Fortress and The Battle of Midway, if I can get both of them completed in time.

In the past it has been allowed to submit multiple games in the same category.

Last fall Chris (cd-w) submitted 3 (or more?) 1K games, and I believe Fred (batari) submitted 2+ 1K games.

More than one 4K game would be impressive, depending on the games, of course. :P

Yes, I did submit three 1K games last year. However, I don't think I will be submitting anything in the 1K category this year as I don't have any good minigame ideas.

yes you can submit as many different games as you like, just producing the same game for two systems counts only as one game, i don't know if ever this was done, but its always been part of the rules as far as i know

Having the different sizes staggered over the year got me thinking. It might be interesting to have a sub category where you enter a game at 1K, then again at 4K and again at 8K each time using the additional memory to add or improve features to the orignal 1K concept. Kind of an evolution of game design thing.

However, the same author apparently can submit the same game on the same platform year after year (see 2004 and 2005.) I'd submit "Zirconium Recrystallized" or "Rocket Command Relaunched" with slight changes but I have a sense of common courtesy...
