Cybergoth
Hi there! As stated elsewhere, the compo may start earlier this year. Here's an info blip straight from the Mini Game Compo Homepage: this year the category's will be run seperately to reduce judging hasslesprobably 1k for 2months 4k for 5months 8k for 7months with some overlap between start and end dates between the categories more details when the compo starts 8K sounds good to me Greetings, Manuel
vdub_bobby
Nice! Should be able to get the complete Colony 7 in 8k, right? I like non-overlapping also.
+batari
probably 1k for 2months 998890 I think this isn't quite enough time. I'd suggest 3 months...Though it's moot for me anyway, as I don't think I can write another 1k minigame any time soon.
Zach
I think spreading out the contests will turn out to be a good move. I will try hard to finish Four-Play in time for the 4K comp. I might try another 1K game too. (And this time I'll know that sound effects during the game are more important than music after a victory.) @Cybergoth, any chance you'll try your hand at a 1K game this year? Well, just start now Yep, I recently rearranged my priorities to start working on a 1K game. I have a hunch the 1K contest will be first. TROGDOR
I'll have a 4K game ready by August. I'm not sure which one I'll submit, but Stellar Fortress is the farthest along. Are we allowed to make more than one submission for the same category? I didn't see any mention of this in the rules. The "one game, one vote" in the FAQ seemed to only apply to the same game across multiple systems. If yes, I'd like to submit Stellar Fortress and The Battle of Midway, if I can get both of them completed in time.
vdub_bobby
In the past it has been allowed to submit multiple games in the same category. Last fall Chris (cd-w) submitted 3 (or more?) 1K games, and I believe Fred (batari) submitted 2+ 1K games. More than one 4K game would be impressive, depending on the games, of course. vdub_bobby
Star Fire of course 1029640 Of course! I suppose I could enter Go Fish! also. And when they allow 16K entries, remind TJ to submit Thrust+ and remind me to submit Reindeer Rescue.

However, I don't think I will be submitting anything in the 1K category this year as I don't have any good minigame ideas. Chris

Robert M
Having the different sizes staggered over the year got me thinking. It might be interesting to have a sub category where you enter a game at 1K, then again at 4K and again at 8K each time using the additional memory to add or improve features to the orignal 1K concept. Kind of an evolution of game design thing.
Cybergoth
That was already part of the plan I think and anyone interested in such an experiment is encouraged to try this

I'd submit "Zirconium Recrystallized" or "Rocket Command Relaunched" with slight changes but I have a sense of common courtesy...
Zach
Hmm, there were eight 1K games for the 2600 last year, and AFAIK no one has announced any plans for one this year. (I mentioned a possible project on my blog, but I'm pretty sure it's too much for 1K)
vdub_bobby
I might take a hack at a 1K game; I have an idea already for the compo but it will probably require 4K.
