I picked up the Jan OXM. I didn't get than into the Full Auto Demo although I thought the graphics were top notch. Now my friend really liked it. So I'm going to give it a another try it again now that I watched him play it and saw how he was doing it. I hate the thought of trading in games but I am really fighting the urge to trade some in PS2 and Xbox games to get a couple of new 360 games but I know I'd regret it years later.

What games are you after?  It looks like slow going as far as new releases go, or maybe I'm just missing them.  Wasn't DOA 4 the only game to come out within the last month for the 360?

For now, I won auctions on NBA 2K6 and Madden for $90 together shipped on ebay. I'm looking to get Call of Duty 2 and maybe Condemmed as well this week on ebay as well. I got the hang of the Full Auto demo and really liked it. Fight Night Round 3 looks amazing. I'll probably get those 2 when they are release in February. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Blazing Angels: Squadrons are what I am looking at for March. Plus in between all those I can pick up DOA 4, Kameo and Pefect Dark Zero if I get a chance so I think I'll be set for 360 games for a little while.

Best games on 360 imo:

PGR3

Call of Duty

DOA

Kameo

Condemned is a great experience, but the gameplay is shallow.

Favourite Arcade game is Zuma.

The real reason for console shortage is a worldwide launch rather than a staggered one. MS should be applauded for their efforts, but laughed at for not seeing the obvious.

Recommended games:

COD2

Condemned

Quake 4

NFS

The shortage is not MS's fault. First, the demand has been incredible. People aren't waiting to see what else gets put on the table anymore. They want everything right away and they will just buy them all. Also, IBM has not been able to produce the number of chips needed to meet the demand. MS could prodce enough 360's but they need to put a processor in them. They should have been prepared for this as Apple has had a problem getting high enough yields from IBM for a long time. That is one of the major reasons they have made the switch to Intel. Hopefully the amount of money IBM will be getting out of the 360 will put them in a position to produce more chips at a faster pace.

I walked into Target yesterday and they had 4 premium systems in the case!!!

I bought 2, one for me, one for ebay. Here's the link

Damn man, greedy guys like you are the reason behind the shortage.

What a joke!

Not really. The shortage is because MS launched a system that they aren't equipped to mass-produce yet.

The eBay markup market is a symptom, not a cause.

Still, he bought 3, 2 for him and a freind, a third out of greed, I know microsoft is at fault, but he's not exactly helping.

1004543[/snapback]

How did this get turned into 3. I never used the word friend, and I never said 3.

I bought 2. One for ME and one for EBAY. Learn how to read NIK! I'm sure plenty of people on this forum would sell 1 for a quick profit!

Alright, 2 then, and thanks for the tip on reading, classy!

I still think that's wrong, profit or not, and I'm sure plenty would want a profit as well, but like I said, I guess to me its kind of cheap and shows character, but its not like I'd boycott a freind or someone I know from talking to me if they did that.

People ARE stupid, but taking advantage of stupid people is cruel, you'd be pissed if it was you, toy or not, kind of like being sniped on ebay from getting a good deal on somthing, right?

I know my opinion doesn't bode well, its not like the human race is going to suddenly be kind and not want to make a profit off anything, but this huge trend was kind of annoying, I'm just a guy who likes his opinion heard like the rest of you..

Don't be cruel to the dumb ebay animals! :D

So if you can play Winter X-Games on a 360, and Best Buy is one of the sponsors, does that mean you can find a 360 in Best Buy, a 360 in X-Box, and a Best Buy in a 360? Or maybe you'd just find 360 reasons not to buy an X-Box and move on.

My character?? :? How is selling an xbox for profit any different than opening your own business? You buy some sort of product, and sell it for a profit. I'll bet you work for a company that does this simple concept. Are people stupid for buying a Chevy or Ford? They make a profit on the car. McDonalds makes money on burgers! Give me a break :(

Actually what you do DOES reflect your character. Actually anything anyone does reflects their character.

Just some people have different opinions on what kind of character. ;)

Yes... I'm bored...

I posted this on a 360 board but I'll add it here too. I bought 3 Xbox 360 games at Gamestop for $93.50 out the door! This is how I did it:

I went there just to buy Condemned. I had a coupon out of Game Informer for 10% of any used games. That's on top of my Gamestop Value Card's 10%. So they had a buy 2 used games and get one free sale going that day. The salesguy , "Do you realized you just $75. I'm not sure we made a profit on this sale." I bought Condemned, King Kong and Need for Speed Most Wanted. I really wanted Call of Duty 2 instead of King Kong but they didn't have it in-stock used. Since it was by one get one free I also wanted them all to be $60 games.

Bingo.

On a side note though, I'm not too sure there IS much money and profit to be made on the new systems and games, only a couple bucks per game sold, just ask any buisness owner, they bitch about it alllll day. It's scapling, people do it with tickets, and people get angry just the same, and stupid people buy the stuff at expanded pricing.

Feel free to add me on xbox live man, we'll duke out our opinions with a good ol' sniper rifle, although I refuse to hump any corpses. ;) gamertag ---> sealed evil

Well not to instigate further but can someone explain to me why walmart should not be able to go onto ebay and auction of 360's as well?

Once that is answered then maybe peoples reservations about the situation may become clearer.

Personally I laugh at people dumb enough to buy 360's at overinflated prices on ebay. If they wanted it that bad they shoulda been more prepared. That being said I would never pick up an extra one on ebay. It would be outside my "character".

Until then, CIAO.

I was in best buy today and saw three xbox premium and two core systems just sitting there.  I nearly did a double take.  Shoulda grabbed one for ebay.

If I had a dollar for each 360 I've seen I'd be richer than the people selling them on Ebay. I thought it was only my little rural hometown that had them, but I was at one of the big Wal-Marts here in the city and there were 3 premiums and 3 cores in the display case alone (there were possibly more because that plus the extra games took up all the room left at the bottom of the 360 case). It's this Wal-Mart on Kelsy Drive, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, if anyone in Canada wants to see if their local store will ship in from there if you're having trouble finding one in your area.

Well not to instigate further but can someone explain to me why walmart should not be able to go onto ebay and auction of 360's as well?

I think the short answer is "Because Microsoft Says So".

I'm not a retail manager, but it seems apparent that the console manufacturers impose price controls on the retail chains. Anytime you have 30 people lined up before the store opens to buy 8 units, the price is obviously too low. Yet all the chains keep the same price tag accompanied by an empty shelf. If they were to raise the price, the store probably loses its standing with Microsoft. So we have a weird situation where the retail store is selling way below market value (depending on the store's location), and ebay is selling 360's for what they're currently worth on an overall nationwide basis.

It seems that all game consoles have had this kind of rigged pricing. I guess it's a PR issue. They don't want to lose people's interest by announcing an initial price of $800. They also want to create as much hype as possible, and having a rush on the systems helps create that. They aren't as concerned about how much money they get from the consoles - the money is in the games.

It's not much good for the retailer, but they have no choice if they want to be a 360 dealer. Even if they have nothing in stock, just having a 360 demo unit makes the store look more "with it". The store might hardly even care if they get any new units in, since they aren't allowed to make much money from them. In the long run they can make money selling games.

Video games for retailers are much like coke, and pepsi.

Warm body's pile in for them, and retailers usually pay more for them then what they sell them for, at least in coke and pepsi's case, although pepsi is cheaper.

Video games still have a tiny amount of profit for the large retailer. Nothing much.

You can complain about people buying and selling 360's and you can complain about snipers but the bottom line is... as long as there are people with the cash to drop on something, they will.

Do I get mad at snipers? Nope... why? Because I put a high bid in on an item that was my true max I would pay (like a real auction). If someone snipes it, then fine it wasn't meant to be. I can get over it.

If I was in line waiting to buy a 360 and someone ahead of me in line bought the last two would I be upset. Yup... for a few minutes then I would realize this guy saved me from shelling out a pile of cash for now. If anything it allows me time to really consider whether I wanted to buy the thing in the first place. (Or if it was all about the hype!)

Nik... they're only video games. There are many more important things in the world to get excited about. Don't waste your life obsessed with pieces of plastic and metal.

  • 6 months later...

I found a 360 at Walmart & Target today but I figured rather than post a new topic about it, I'll just add to this one :D

Heh.

Even after I stood in line on New Years Eve to get my Core (yes, I'm that much of a loser, and I was that bored that night), Wal-Mart still had systems left over, or at least got some more before the week was out.

I haven't seen any stores stocking Cores anymore, only Premiums. It makes me a bit nervous as to the availability of the hard drive if I finally decide I might need one.
