there is no official site yet, but i picked one up at target and it plays really well. the presentation on the screen and the sounds are very accurate. the only modern liberty mattel took with it was the addition of lame 8-bit sounding music, but thankfully the music can be turned off.

i particularly like this "upgrade" that managed to keep the original controls and feel. this is the best kindof of product we expect from plug-and-plays

Oh jeez, what's next, plug n' play Simon?

Weren't they making remakes of the handhelds like the originals?

So it plugs into a TV and you see red lcd lights on your TV? That's the attraction?

you see the entire playfield on your tv. there are the original handhelds in stores still, but this unit has all three games.

Wow, that is sorta stupid.

I mean the handhelds are fun, but it's because they're umm - handhelds.

Indeed, speaking of which, why didn't Mattel rerelease Auto Race?

I had one and remember it as very popular back in the 1970-80s!

Good question. I played the sh*t out of that back in the day.

I still have mine too! :)

I wish i still had mine, and I had a radio shack version of the game too. I remember rolling the score on it... on both slow and fast.

How about the Skiing one which (IIRC) was just like racing, but upside down!

to me, its similar to the game & watch collections for gameboy. sure the games are limited on their own, but to somebody like myself that is interested in these games but doesnt want to start a collection, its a decent compromise.

Ummmm.....if I might correct a grievous error, the Mattel sports games were not L.C.D., L.C.D. is black numbers and such like what you see on a digital watch, or like the Tomagotchi or other digital pets. The Mattel sports games are L.E.D.

L.C.D.=Liquid Crystal Display=black numbers or letters like digital watches or the digital Tomagotchi pets

L.E.D.=Light Emitting Diode=red numbers like what is seen on the face of most digital alarm clocks or clock radios or even the displays of some CD boom boxes.

So as I pointed out, the Mattel Sports games are L.E.D.

Ask--or at least mention--and ye shall receive. A year and a half after maibock's verbal irony, I actually found that someone has made a plug-and-play Simon game. I saw this new product line at Wal-Mart recently from Mammoth Toys, "TV Board Games." I found almost no mention of them online other than at the ESRB ratings site, though. Anyway, there were a few models, of two types: 6-in-1 and 3-in-1 models, priced something like $20 and $15, respectively, though I'm not sure. The 6-in-1 models included 3 branded games and 3 generics, while the 3-in-1 models had 2 branded and 1 generic. The branded games included Candyland, Battleship, the aforementioned Simon, and some others I've forgotten. Generics were like checkers and such.

I don't see why you would buy one of these instead of the real thing. Isn't it much better to play a board game using an actual board, with all the players gathered around it (speaking of which, how would you even do multiplayer with these, especially with Battleship)? Similarly, when I read about the plug-and-play Rock'em Sock'em Robots (as well as the GBA version) months ago, I thought it made no sense; you lose the physical experience of knocking the other guy's block off, which is the real advantage of that toy over a video game like Street Fighter II or Mortal Kombat.

Oh, well.

Interesting - I wonder what chip they're using inside. Mammoth produced the C64DTV plug & play. It would be *really* interesting in several ways if the C64 ASIC was used inside these units, but I guess it's much more likely another NOAC.

I wish Fisher Price could re-introduce their little movie thingies. Even with today's audience, I think they'd sell well. Unfortunately, I don't believe anyone makes print film in Super 8 format anymore. It would probably be possible to use Ektachrome 65 reversal film (which is still made) but I have no idea what that would cost in bulk. I think those toy movie cartridges use about 15 feet; a 50' cartridge costs about $14. Bulk would certainly be much cheaper, but I wouldn't know exactly how much. Probably about $0.10-$0.15/foot, which would mean $1.50-$2.25 worth of film per cartridge. Much too expensive, especially when one adds in the cost of duplication and processing.

I had one of the REal electronic football games when i was a kid OR did i steal it from my brother i cant remember!!! I do remember taking it apart using a triangle file and putting a sound switch on it witch is why if it ever got stolen in school i would always get it back cause i melted AW inside it w soldering iron I would always get it taken away from teacher ..I also had a racing game witch was cool and i think i put a sound switch on that too.. I still remember having to pick the lock on the teachers desk to steal my electronic games back. ALSO in the mattell OLD football game there was a speed adjustement pot ..

ALSO donot get them wet i left one in a cooler on the boat once then all the ice melted into a puddle of water and ruined it.. I kept it for parts and ended up using the buttons to repair a atari joystick!!!!!! or vise versa!! I always look for games like that at good will.

I just got a new electronic football and DONT LIKE IT its not correct speed and uses aa batteries I was ready to use a lithuim 9v smoke detector 9v witch would probably last 2 to 5 hours instead of a duracell witch lasts about 45 minnutes at the most ..

hmm i guess you could use nickel metal hydride aa batteries but i love the lithuim smoke detector 9volts they cost $14 but they last way longer. i have one in my weather radio .

I also remember my freind had a weird brand basket ball game witch was LED it was cool you could pass and it was 2 player too...

I had racing football 1 2 and baseball I didnt like basket ball and baseball was lame too..

the racing game was by far the best one they made the only problem was finding a nother toy or cb radio witch used the same four way switch witch let you switch lanes it had 3 postisions but no ball berrings or detents to stop it I think i remember trying to use a broken football 1 switch for racing I cant remember how long it lasted .

I also had a tomy pinball with the 6's in the display I had replaced the buttons w red radio shack buttons witch worked great.
