It's on top of the left tree. I have explained above how you can make it readable.

Well.. I drew a map with the boxes on the upper left/top sides... thinking that since they are 8 across.. it could be a graphics map for the VCS (using something like edixghx)... but alas.. after putting them all into excel and fixing the colors for a clearer pic... nothing..

Last word.. first part ..braille

Oops, thanks, I missed that word.

Still the question makes no sense, does it?

Look at my message about the sequences. Those are the boxes I'm there refering to.

A couple things...

I think I finally get the Braille question, but I still don't know the answer... Maybe some research will turn it up, but... In the meantime, I will stay mum on this one. I will give one tiny hint in that we already have a clue that may help you understand this question (assuming I really do; if not, then I'm still in the dark :-).

Thomas... I finally figured out how you got the line above the left tree (I missed your explanation like three times), but I don't know what "KG" is supposed to be... It does look like "KG" to me as well, now that I understand how to view it, but I don't know what it means. "Key gold"?

I assume the text above the right tree isn't gotten the same way?

Also, you say:

quote:

The box codes Russ is talking about are real. You need to change the colors, flip the map (vertically) and then you can (very!) hardly read it. It's a hint about Braille.

I should point out that the box codes that I keep referring to do NOT require a color change to see. If it's a hint about Braille, I don't see it. Perhaps you've found something else? I'm still antsy about giving it away, but concentrate on the key, and you might see what I mean (and if you already do, might you tell how it's a hint about the Braille?).

I still haven't found the numbers codes for sure; it might just be a problem that I'm not doing the right thing, or in the right place... I have a program at home that might help in the first instance...

To Matty etc... I just noticed the ring in the exclamation point late last night, but I couldn't tell what it was! (It looked like the new Spiderman Graemlin somebody showed in another?this? thread). Good eye!

Q*Bert -- good catch with "GREYINK" anagramming to "KEY" & "RING"!

Tell me, has anyone found other questions? Or only more hints? I think the "8-bit box" code is another question, and the number code another, leaving the odd box code I found as just a hint?? Guessing there...

As much as I *love* decoding and hidden contests and crap like this, I just don't have the time to spend trying to solve it. (Have a yearly business trip next week and every spare moment is going towards preparing for it.)

However, here's a thought for you stalwarts. Could "KG" have any connections with the word "cagey?" As in "clever" or "mysterious?" Just a thought.

Thats great, and now I understand. Key & Ring, these both hidden items in the map.

The Key over the screen 82 and the Ring in the "!" from the Pitfall Logo.

So there are maybe no more items hidden.

But what can we do with these both items?

Ok, we are not sure about "KG", but what could be a "trio"? Three dots on the map, three digit numbers at the bottom, or groups of three boxes, or...?

That's much easier to find.

Until now I haven't found anything where the key might help. I wonder how your box code looks like.

Just change the color of the background. It's that easy.

The number code is a question for sure, because the last character you uncover is a "?".

I think the "8-bit box" code is another question, and the number code another,

Meanwhile I'm not 100% sure anymore, that this is not a code.

If you look at the intervalls of the sequence values, you find values from 1..27. And the lower values are much more often occuring. Maybe the characters are ordered to the frequency of characters in the english language (e.g.: e, t,... j, z). But I could not find any sense by using this.

But this could be code for 26 alphabetic characters plus one space.

I hope Ben has some more hints for us.

BTW: How many people have registered for the contest until now? I am #7.

I have 10 on record as officially qualifying contestants. And as all ten of you know, no one has become eligible to win any of the prizes yet. You have to solve at least ONE of the three questions to be eligible for 3rd Prize. You have to solve all 3 in order to win First or Second Prize.

Due to an error on my part, the clue which appears in an archived version of the Map page was deleted from the current Map page until now. I have recently edited the current Map page to re-instate the META TAG clue which some of you had found earlier. This is the only change I have made and will make to the contest page(s). My apologies to those who had previously dismissed this clue as being completely worthless.

Sure...rub it in! j/k

How do you know if you're registered? Do you have to go to the secret website that tells you the details and the contest and e-mail you? Or do you just have to post on the topic like so? Am I registered? That secret contest page that you made basically has what Ben just said and the rules, but also has some pictures at the bottom of it. Happy Logical Problems Appreciation Day!

Here's something else to ponder...

The number code has values that fall below 255. The box code has 8 pixels each...which in turn could be interpreted as bit values (0-255 again). The Pitfall map has 255 screens. Is each screen representing letters? Are the numbers pointing at letters in some other cypher (like the "Tips from Pitfall Harry" text)? I've tried both, and get no more than a partial word before it gets mucked up. Just another method to pass along to your already-overworked synapses.

Blue--

I posted the site by mistake last night, and MattyXB chastised me because just finding WHERE to register puts you in line to win randomly. Just look for the clues mentioned in the posts above my edited one to see the place to register yourself.

Is that giving away too much? I don't think so, since it is clearly visable even on a crappy monitor

Now, this "KG" business...

The letters run together in a couple spots. Could it be that KG is really lOG? That makes the question...

A LOG IS A DOT A TRIO IS NOT.

Dots and dashes...morse code in the logs shown on the map.

And possibly...

Use the number code to get either a dot or a dash (as dictated by the number of logs in each picture)...and work up a sentance from that.

??

BTW this is a year-long contest. Between the possibilities of braille, morse code, hidden cyphers, and graphic puzzles...we may need every second. Try not to get in too deep before trying different approaches.

Hats off to ya, Ben...you have the entire site's population scratching their heads and cursing their monitors.

Dang it Nukey! I finally got the right background to see the number clues, and made the connection to the "trio" clue (though not "log"; nice catch!), and am currently deciphering it. So now I won't be the only one! :-p

Well, no luck there yet... I guess it probably requires another hint, else there are too many gaps in code.

Geez, I'm an idiot... Yesterday I was wondering about the intervals, but thought it didn't make sense because of negative ones. Didn't think to just abs() them and not worry about it. Maybe I'll give that a try later.

Oh, I did finally get the right tree's code to pop out, so I think maybe I've caught up there?

By the way, the "box code" I keep talking about appears to have 12 characters:

code:

+-+-+-+ + +-+-+ + +-+-+ +-+-+

| | | | | | | |

+-+-+ +-+-+ +-+-+ +-+-+ +-+-+ +

+-+ +-+-+ +-+-+ + + +-+ +-+-+-+

| | | | | | | | |

+-+ + + +-+-+ +-+-+ +-+ +-+-+-+
