is a bit biased. Probably the first "true" RPG game

Hard to say. I have fond nostalgia for the first one, and I almost beat the second one but got bored going for the final crest. It was a good game, I just lost momentum.

 

I hear great things about the other two, but have never played them.

I've only played I and IV, and I chose IV. I think it's the most unique NES RPG.

It is a good game. The issue is in the final chapter. There is something wrong with the battle system. If I remember right. I haven't played the game in about 6 years I think. I do own it though.

Well, what's "wrong" is that you can't control your entire party. I don't if that would make the entire game overrated. You can set the "strategy" of your party, like use lots of MP, save MP, offensive, defensive, etc. I found it was actually kind of nice not having to remember what all the individual party members' spells and special attacks were and stuff; the computer just did it for you. And if I recall correctly, if you're controlling Taloon, you can't do his weird merchant stuff, like roaring really loud and telling jokes. Now that I think about it, that game is kind of funny, too.

 

That was kind of an annoying thing about the final chapter, though.

Heck yes I do! I got it for $2 at a pawn shop. Probably my greatest/only rare find.
