What is your favorite 2600 platformer?

Following up on last week's poll, this time we focus on the ever popular platformer genre.

I voted for 2600 Mario Bros. (check out Rhindle's awesome hack BTW) - it has great 2 player simultaneous action, and, for me personally, it has better game play than almost any other version of Mario Bros.

 

Back in the day, my favorite was easily Keystone Kapers, which I owned and played to death (and many of those deaths consisted of "propellerheads" ).

That was a tough call between Mountain King and Pitfall II for me, but I ultimately went with Mountain King only because I've pretty much played Pitfall II to death.

Wow... this is a really tough question. I don't think I can break a four-way tie... and that doesn't even include Fast Eddie, a game I really like, or Crystal Castles, one of my favorite games, but one I don't consider a true platformer.

IMO, Its hard to top the the simultaneous 2 player gameplay of Mario Bros.

It's a tough call between Pitfall II and Fall Down, but I chose Fall Down because I haven't gotten it "figured out" as much as Pitfall II, if that makes any sense.

That makes perfect sense. That's why I chose Mountain King over Pitfall II.

Like most people, I had about 3 I would say were a tie, but I will have to go with Pitfall just because it will always be part of my top 10 2600 games of all time.

I would have voted for the Smurf platformer but I couldn't see it on the list. So I chose Mario Bros.

Keystone Kapers, I always thought it deserved a sequel as well, maybe with a different setting like canadian mountees(I have no idea how you spell that) or a wild west theme.

Pitfall II and Crystal Castles, which are I might add, are two of the best games for the system also.

Where is the best game in the entire 2600 library, H.E.R.O.? Don't you consider it a platformer (even though you're hovering over most of the platforms)?

 

I had to say "other," but among those in the list (some of which are great, some suck, and some I've never played), I'd have voted for Keystone Kapers.

Yeah, I saw that... I just find it a little odd that you'd choose some of the obscure and/or obviously weak titles you did (Donkey Kong Junior???) at its expense.

Well, Donkey Kong Junior, sucky game or no, is Donkey Kong Junior, a high profile title and most certainly a platformer. H.E.R.O., a fine game that I like a lot, can be considered a platformer, but it is less clear. So, I made an editorial decision and there you go.

I love Mario Bros., but I never really considered it a platformer. Heck, I really love Kapers, so that wins!

Keystone Kapers is probably my favorite.

 

DK Junior isn't all that bad. I think it's a pretty good port as far as the 2600 is concerned. Coleco titles get alot of flack. Most of them are actually pretty good.

I wonder if either my DK Jr cart or my brain is defective then, because the one time I actually tried playing it, I found the controls so hopelessly impossible that I considered the game 100% absolutely unplayable. (Hence my disparaging comments.)

Keystone Kapers definitely. I love that game.
