Lauren Tyler
The manual for Dark Chambers states that you press the right fire button to activate bombs, but when I press it, all I get is a regular shot. Is this a bug or something to do with the difficulty switches? Or is it something to do with MESS?

Is this a bug or something to do with the difficulty switches? Or is it something to do with MESS? I actually own the game. Seems to work just fine for me, so I would assume this is a MESS problem. I know a lot of games that I've played using MESS tend not to work just right. Perhaps this is one of them? (I haven't played DC on MESS much, naturally). Why not download and try another emulator to see if the same problem occurs?

I'll try using a different emulator instead. In ProSystem, nothing happens when I press the right button key. It's like the game doesn't even acknowledge it. It's funny, in games where both buttons do the same thing (Joust, Ms. Pac-Man, etc.) the right button doesn't work at all. RetroGamesJames
A google search brought me here... I have the same problem and I'm using the actual game cartridge in a real 7800. My right button on both of my sticks is acting as a regular fire button. So I doubt it's an emulator issue. I'm wondering if the rom itself is bad. This one I have I actually opened the box that was sealed for the last 25 or so years, so it's "brand new". Ha.
+phoenixdownita
It works fine here both on an original cart as well as on a homemade multi (the ROM for which came from the GoodSet) on real HW. So no, the problem likely is on your side. I managed to get all the way to the X or Y levels on the last difficulty setting (if you start beginner you need to go through the game 3 times) but never managed to finish it to see what's after the third (and I believe last) Z level. I think starting at beginner helps building up a stash of bombs, energy, keys etc.... so much so that it is like a worthy investment for the next 2 loops .... but yeah it's no gauntlet! +KayBee
Same on OpenEMU on Mac (which uses ProSystem) second fire button does not work in Dark Chambers.
+Muddyfunster
Sounds like an emulator issue again. I'd suggest trying A7800, Bup or Argon.
superseth
I have the same issue with my physical copy on a 7800. I suspect you might need to boot up the system with an actual 7800 controller connected at start? I normally have my 2600 stick connected and I think trying to swap mid-game might have gotten the game confused. Will do more testing. superseth
Just to confirm - on my physical console at least - starting the game without the 7800 controller inserted into the port can make it so you can't throw bombs. Good to know before you get started on a run!
