Thats a good thought in principle, but i don't own a Portfolio, and the ISA Card to which the HPC301 was connected to, only has drivers for DOS/Windows 3.1x. It simly doesn't work on actual computers/OS. My PC doesn't even have an ISA Slot...

Yes, the interface is home made. Instructions on the SIO2IDE interface you can find here: http://atariarea.krap.pl/sio2ide/

Very cool. I like it. You could use the 300 baud XE modem case as well. You might also be able to use the 1200 baud xe/st modem for a SIO2IDE harddrive although it might be low.

Yeah, the XM301 is a lot more common and nearly useless for any other purpose. I have 4 laying around. You would have to make a hole for the CF card though.

Yea, I did just that a couple of weeks ago.

took a xm301 case, cut a slot for the CF card with a dremmel tool and some small files, installed a 5v regulator for the CF adapter, and ran a ribbon cable to a MAX Flash / MyIDE Cart. The thing runs off a 9V "wall Wart" power adapter. It looks way cool next to my 130XE

Nice. Very nice!

I would have just left the cardbus slot and used an CF2cardbus adaptor. These are just straight through wires anyway. This way you could save removing that part of the board and just wire directly up to the DB port.

A very nice idea, though personally I would be sorry for sacrificing the original innards. Perhaps it would be better to save the original board and just replace it with a new one so that you could always restore the unit for its original use?

Boy howdy.  I'd sure like that HPC-301, card and all.  If the fellow still has it, I'll give it a good home.
