CosmicJoke
Has anybody here used a MAS Systems Super NOVA Arcade System? It seems like a cool but expensive system. Here is some information from their website. quoteThe Super NOVA Arcade System brings you the real Arcade Experience home - a complete system designed to replace the full-size upright Arcade cabinet. It comes with everything you need to connect to a regular Television with Composite Video and/or S-Video Inputs, and to an Audio Stereo system using standard RCA connectors. A built-in 3-inch speaker allows the Super NOVA to be completely portable, which includes two single individual Arcade Controllers for Player 1 and 2. Additional controllers (both standard & custom models) can be ordered separately to accommodate games that require more than 2 Players. And with the addition of our High Quality Industrial RGB Monitor, such as the one used on the SAS-2000SC Arcade System, the best possible picture can be easily achieved. Sold separately are the Arcade display stands for the Television, and the Arcade controllers with a full-size over/under coin door. Basically, it allows you to take an actual JAMMA arcade board and hook it up to your TV and play! HERE is a link to their page, check it out. What do you all think? Adrian M
These arcade PCB player devices have indeed been around for many, many years. I remember seeing ads for them in the back pages of EGM and various mags as far back as 1992! They were called "SUPERGUNs" and while the thought of being able to play real arcade boards was intriguing, there are some problems like sometimes getting steady pictures, consistent sound, and overall reliable performance. Face it, these are just essentially arcade machine interfaces (with console-type controllers or actual joysticks with the PCB board connector built in) without the bulky cabinet and all that other crap. Other problems were proprietary connectors with certain boards, problems with some buttons working and occassional hardware problems like pulled wires, etc. Are they worth it? Back in the early 90's before the advent of MAME emulation, I would say definitely. But today, this really isn't worthy buying. Get an old cabinet and get the real experience or just emulate your arcade games. This is an expensive and cumbersome way to play arcade games on your TV.
