liveinabin
I was browsing around the game stores today (as we all do) and I came across Sonic Gems, which had completely slipped under my radar until now. Anyway, as many of you will know, it contains (amongst a load of old Game Gear crap) Sonic Fighters, Sonic CD (for the first time in one of these compilations) and Sonic R. Well, I already have Sonic CD working under emulation for the Xbox and I've played Sonic R to death on the Saturn (and I still love it) and was going to pass on this particular compilation, until I checked the movies of it out on IGN. They've fixed the terrible draw-in on Sonic R!!!! Remember it? Whole cities would appear out of thin air about 15 feet in front of you, not ideal for a race game really I can't believe they've given us a fixed version! :) Suffice to say I've ordered it (cheaper online) for the Gamecube (although there's a PS2 version in UK too, though it doesn't have the 4 player mode on Sonic R, but does have both soundtracks for Sonic CD). Anyone else have this? How is it to play Sonic R without also playing 'guess the next 10 yards of track'?
Lost Monkey
I've been meaning to pick this up -- I didn't realize that Sonic R was 'fixed"... I hope all the original music is intact too...
AtariJr
yea sonic the fighters is awesome too. Me and my roomated played it all the time. My favorite type of graphics are of that age of games, the same type of graphics that were used in the arcade version of Virtua Fighter. I just love that super blocky, looks like its been made of 8 million blocks, type of character models.
Avid Fan
From what I understand, Sonic R is a port of the PC version
Zoop
don't forget Vectorman ,and Vectorman 2 are unlockable on Sonic Gems. Aside from Sonic Fighters ,and Sonic CD it was one of my other reasons for buying the game.
guitarmas
don't forget Vectorman ,and Vectorman 2 are unlockable on Sonic Gems. Aside from Sonic Fighters ,and Sonic CD it was one of my other reasons for buying the game. I must have a very gifted gamecube. I bought Sonic gems the other day, put the game in, went to options and backing out of options it said that vector man(1) was available now! It also did the same thing on the Mega Man anniversary collections cd. The powerbattle or whatever it's called would just pop-up outta no where just after playing a few bosses on megaman 3. Anyone else have these wonderful issues?
Zoop
Vectorman is unlocked very easily on Sonic Gems ,but Vectorman 2 is a little bit tougher to get i havent unlocked it yet. i forget the method.
bruser_inc
Vectorman will be unlocked when you first play the game if you have a Sonic Heros (or Sonic Mega Collection I THINK) save on your memory card. If you don't have one of those games saved on your memory card it will unlock after 5 hours of play. Vectorman 2 unlocks after 7 hours of play (and playing Vectorman once). sega saturn x
I was pretty pissed that sega didn't release the track ball sonic game yet they saw fit to cram the disc with unplayable game gear games.
guitarmas
sonic heroes was awful although im debating of going back to it They practically got every Sonic game re-established on current gen consoles. What about Knuckles Chaotix?

Zoop
that is a shame it was never released on at least a complation.
liveinabin
I guess the trackball control would make joypad play a pain. Oh man, I'm so fired up about Sonic Gems now Got the gamecube out and hooked it up last night. After half an hours play on Burnout 2 (which still looks hyper-real, much better than 3 or 4), I'm starting to wonder why I put it away in the first place. Wonderful console, I've been so cruel to it, leaving it unloved and in its box. It's funny, I could have bought the PS2 version of Gems yesterday, but it just seems to suit play in the Gamecube so much more.
Zoop
cube is a wonderful system. i had a ps2 ,and sold it off(although im debating on rebuying) then i have an Xbox ,and a 360 ,but since the 360 plays most of my Xbox stuff i put the Xbox away so now the only systems i have left out are my 360 Gamecube ,and Dreamcast. I have the most games for my Gamecube
sega saturn x
The cube is right after the saturn in terms of console favorites. But oddly enough barring the DS I never really liked any nintendo system before it.
