Atari wont be making a game for for the ps3 now till either early or late 2007. SNK released today that they dont want to make a game for it till 2009-2010!!, practically when the system will be dead. It seems the high price point, lack of enough systems for launch, and sony's attitude in general about the system is starting to scare away developers who already have launch titles scheduled for systems like the Wii . (Dragon Ball Z Tenchitchi -atari, Metal Slug Anthology - SNK)

I'm sure Dragon Ball Z fans will be the only ones to notice the Atari thing. However, the SNK thing has to hurt them in Japan a little. The SNK thing would also be a nice hole in their armour for Microsoft to attack in Japan (by, say, getting some fighting game exclusives, and continuing to put out Metal Slug games).

I'd rather hear about Capcom and Konami's plans for the PS3, rather than minor third-party companies like Atari and SNK...

The high price might scare off some of the crappier developers, but that might be a good thing. Honestly, not having Atari develop something for your console is almost a plus. Does SNK still publish games? I havent paid much attention to them.

It has very little to do with being scared, it has more to do with the fact that the devkits were just as hard to come by as Wii devkits, until about the end of July, it's not enough time to release something for 2006, especially on the PS3. Damn, even Red-Steel for the Wii was pushed out until next year, and the Wii isn't even a next-gen system. It's all about development time.

Red Steel has been delayed to 2007?

I just read a post on IGN which lists Ubi's 7 launch window titles. I'm sure Red Steel being delayed to 2007 would have hit the news there.

I'm not surprised. Smaller developers just aren't goint to be able to afford to develop on the PS3 in the near future and I'll bet a lot of games that were going to be developed for the PS3 were put on hold or moved to the 360 when they heard the price for it at E3.

It has hit the internet in the form of a rumour, google it. It's just that, a rumour, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Let's see...

While I do like a few Atari releases in recent memory (the Godzilla game for the Gamecube was my reason for purchasing that system), their other games are distinctly low tier. Let's also remember they're precipitously close to going out of business.

As for SNK, I guess that means that they won't be rehashing the same exact game from 1995 yet again, at least not on the PS3. Seriously, SNK is beyond stagnant.

SNK skipping the PS3 probably has a lot to do with Sony giving them hell this generation.

SCE's been rather hostile towards them, because they don't really WANT NeoGeo games on their system, and certainly don't want them looking like "real" titles. So they've been forcing SNK to release their games in bundles and denying them "full-price" releases to make sure everyone knows that SNK's titles are bargin-bin games.

Except for the 3D remakes. SCE's okay with those, even if SNK's fans aren't.

Ding ding ding we have a winner. I'm suprised anyone actually cares about SNK anymore given the complete derth of quality found in their modern titles (and lets face it older ones as well). KOF11 looks good but one good game doesn't offset 10 crappy ones.

yea sony has adapted the cocky attitude towards developers like nintendo had in the snes days...

i think that id rather have snk release few good games than EA making bad games every other day. At least i know that besides the 3d remakes of fighters, when they DO release a game, its usually a must have.

That stupid 3D-snob attitude from Sony — on the PS2, even — is what killed Working Designs.

No real surprise there. I figure the super high launch price of the PS3 is scaring a lot of people away. After all, it doesn't matter if your system is god itself if the price prevents very many people from buying it. Which, BTW means low sales of even the highest capable producers.

I know for a fact, if I was a developer, and I heard the PS3 was going to be $600, I'd immidiately shelve all the games for that system and work more on the X-Box 360 and Wii instead, leaving what should have been launch games for the PS3, coming out years later...if ever.

Better to cut your losses early, rather than produce something that will never sell very well.

i think why snk is also waiting so long , is that like you said, not many people will have the system at first. The main problem is that if in a couple years more people have the system, those peope probably wouldnt care about the launch titles anymore, so i have to agree with thier decision. I think in this business when you can be the greatest one day, and the worst the next.. you have to keep your guard up and play it safe sometimes.

No they did that all on their own. I know sony rejected a ton of their games. But a lot of it has to do with the fact it took WD a generation to release two games. They also included a whole bunch of gaudy crap nobody really wanted. Why it took WD years to do what NIS can do in months makes no sense and is a major reason the company went under.
