Cool poll, great to see you not only considering bringing us more fantastic ports but also planning original game designs, Johnny. Nice concepts here, hopefully you will find time to advance these in between your ports ;)

As for the arcade ports, despite a preference for Space Panic, I voted for Baby-PacMan, as that would really touch new ground on the 2600 and add furhter diversity to the Champ Games library :)

Cheers, Eric

Why do people wanna "fix" Wizard of Wor??

It is a fine game as it is.

Much better than Coleco Kong!

From a gameplay standpoint, I'm in agreement. However, I think WoW could stand a hack, probably upping it to 8K or more, which would hopefully make it easier to add:

more monster graphics.

more mazes

more effects/sounds/titles

some changes to the display kernel to lessen sprite flicker. (that would be the toughest part I'm assuming)

I am a little skiddish of "Mappy".

I reckon only the Japanese ever actually played/enjoyed the game.

First time I heard of it was on a Famiclone I picked up at a thrift.

Apparently it was bigger than Fonz in the Land of the Rising Sun however.

No Mappy was bigger than you think, we had one at our local food bag many years ago. I never played it there because it looked like a kids or girls game, it wasn't until MAME I had tried it and found I was missing a very fun game all that time!

If I remember it replaced Missile Command at that store, that I did use to play there.

But Zaxxon was the crown jewel what they got that game it was had to get to play it, everyone wanted to play it so it always had someone playing and others waiting to play it.

Too bad that is impossible on the 2600, well like the arcade the three quarter scrolling I mean, as a side shooter Zaxxon should be excellent on the 2600, but we are talking Mappy, this should be great almost as good as the MSX version I'll bet!

I have played that on an MSX emulator too.

I loved Mappy ever since I was little and Aladdin's Castle was still in the Annapolis Mall. I got Namco Museum v. 2 for PSX for that game and Galaga 3 (Gaplus) and I was not disappointed. I haven't even been outside of the US.

If only you could also code for the Atari 800 series, your A2600 productions are great! :-) Anyway, to prevent being off-topic, I vote for the multi-level shoot-em up.

Actually, my *first* games ever were in Atari 800 basic way back in the 80's. I've always wanted to make a real game for the 5200/800 so don't count that out *someday*. Looks like I have plenty of 2600 work ahead of me though... :)

I've been playing your Champ Games since I got on the net in 95 or 96, so I'm looking forward to whatever's next :)

I voted for Mappy, I used to play it in the arcades and I always thought it was a fun and popular game. Maybe I was wrong about the popularity.

I also put in a vote for your Hockey game, sounds like a cool idea. I guess not enough sports nuts around here. Once you got a good Hockey game implemented it wouldn't take too much to turn it into a killer Soccer game ;)

It was VERY popular if you lived in Japan (which you may) but most people in the Western World never heard of it until it showed up on Famiclones.

I would love to see a 2600 version of Dark Tower or something similar. I know there's a prototype of Dark Tower for the Vectrex floating around. Other than dark tower/ something similar, I would also love to see the hockey game.

I voted for Super Pac-Man. Although I never programmed a 2600 game (yet), I did read the Stella programmer's guide from front to back a few years ago, and I was thinking of how feasible this could be done.

-Use playfield graphics for the maze

-Use playfield graphics for the fruit (there wouldn't be much detail for these, you simply use square blocks, say 6 scanlines for each--red will be apples, yellow will be bananas, etc. A sprite at the bottom right corner would be used to give a detailed graphical representation of what the square block fruits are supposed to be).

-If fruit and maze are to be of different colors, then flicker both (as in Lady Bug)

-Use flashing playfield graphics for the power pills

-Sprites for ghosts, keys, "supersize power pills", and "slot machine" graphics.

-Use a single scanline playfield graphic for horizontal doors (skip the maze playfield as in Lock N Chase/Lady Bug)

-Use missile/ball graphics for vertical doors

And of course, when pac-man turns into Super Pac-Man, it's a simple matter of using the double or quad sprite.

All of this is easier said than done, of course. But I was really impressed with Lady Bug, and it's one of the greatest Atari games of all time, I rank it right up there with Gyruss and Star Wars: The Arcade Game. Go johnnywc!!!
