ComputerCollector
Dr love, sorry to hear your sad story. This is typical of these places I guess. These goodwills mainly only want to do 1 of 2 things: 1. Throw the stuff away or 2. charge a rip off price. For example, for months at a time I was finding computers and selling them in the paper. I could usually find a monitor and keyboard, too. But for some reason, I couldnt find a monitor for a while, and wanted to sell the package. Well, I went into a Goodwill and said, "Hey, I know you guys throw monitors out like they grow on trees. Lets make a deal. instead of throwing them away for now on, how about you sell them to me in bulk for cheap." The lady went in the back and came back out with a minitor and said it would be $9.99. they would not reduce the price. So I didnt buy it. And just a few days later at another Goodwill I went dumpster diving a and got more than one for free. Now a days, I cant get any anymore, because they keep cutting the wires off them to keep dumpster divers from getting them. I ought to pick them up and throw them all over the prking lot for that
Dusk2600
bottom line is those stores are scum, i dont care if this sturrs up a fight. If someone wants to argue the point go to your nearest thrift. look in the trash, at the stuff they throw, non-broken stuff people donated for "A good cause" They are nothing but a crooked chain that takes shit 4 free and sells it, they dont care about the donations, customers, the poor or the people donating. they take a big chunk of that money and give a small portion "back to the community"
ComputerCollector
I finally got around to trying out my new Nintendo games. I never had a Nintendo as a kid, so these are my first copies of these games. As a kid, the only time I played some of these was at other kids houses. Getting the thing to work takes more time than actually playing the games, though. The majority of them dont work at all, even after cleaning them with a cotton swab and alcohol. I got real pissed whn I was playing Mario 3 and got real far and then the dang thing funked up in the middle of the game. Isnt there a way to save games? Anyway, I know that the suggested thing to do is to replace the thing that the rom pak inserts into. I was wondering if anyone has ever done that and can tell me if its worth the touble or not. If its hard to buy the part or difficult to do, I might as well sell my whole NES. I have a very clean nice boxed unit with all accessories and 4 controllers, some still wrapped in the platic bags. This is the 4 player sprots edition, and I really like it, so I really dont want to sell it, but I will if I cant figure out a way to do do away with this blinking light BS. Actually, the dang NES conked out on me TWICE when playing Mario 3. To be honest, Ive had it with this dang thing. I waste all that time playing and getting far and then next thing you know the game goes berzerk and its back to the title screen again. This really pisses me off. This is a shame because NES software is actually excellent software. Its the hardware that sucks the big one. But this game BIGFOOT really could have been better. To be honest, it kind of sucks. Overall, Im very impressed with the games and they are very fun to play with, but unfortunately Nintendo didnt know how to design a quality product, making me want to get rid of everything practically. Cheese007
Either get a Famiclone (Tristar 64, the Penguin one, Yobo, RetroCon, Polystation, Powerjoy, Game Axe, Generation NEX, that one with the controllers that light up with the console, etc.) with a Famicon to NES adaptor or a NES toploader. Sell the NES on ebay.EDIT: Or Dusk's solution. Edited August 21, 2006 by Cheese007
JacobZu7zu7
When I worked at a gaming store, we had a lock on our dumpster. Everyday for a week, someone cut the lock off with a bolt cutter and DESTROYED our back area, tossing shit everywhere. Ok, my boss thought, this ends today. He had me go to the drug store and buy a bunch of needles, the kind you put in syringes. We spread them around the inside of the dumpster. After that, no one EVER messed with our dumpster again. How does the needles work, if the garbage men/janitors pick up the trash,
madhatter667
Well, the divers hit the dumpster before the trashmen, get pricked to hell, or get realy scared if they see the needles in the first place. I agree that many thrift places are sleazy in the respect that they take some stuff for free, and then sell it, often for prices that aren't as reasonable for what you're getting. My wife bought some leather jackets from Goodwill before for around $50 each. Nice jackets, but those probably cost that much new, given their vintage. All were in nice shape though. I would have haggled for them. I am also not keen on paying whatever the person tagging the item feels like he/she is gonna charge the individual for an item. The system seems completely arbitrary to me, as I have rarely ever seen uniform pricing. I would totally be ok with pilferring the dumpster, and anything else that wasn't in the donation area. Hell, I have known people who have straight up ganked stuff from thrift stores before, because $5 is not a good price for a game cartridge that may or may not work, and isn't even rare besides. mathwontmissyou
I have a friend who works at Goodwill listing items on their online aution site and I get numerous complaints from him about how their stores are run. First off, for being a "charity" organization, they certainly don't act like it. The district manager for the Portland store, for instance made $830,000 in pay and benefits, more than any other non-profit executive in Oregon. My friend's particular warehouse made more money than their projected plan way ahead of schedule. When asked what the employees would like for some kind of bonus, they asked for a cash bonus. Instead, they are getting taken out to lunch, with the ceo's who are taking the excess cash as a bonus to themselves. Goodwill indeed! They take donations and then sell them for way more than they are worth as if monre money now is better than more money in the long run. If Goodwill weren't so greedy, maybe I would feel sympathy with it against dumpster diving and donation bin rummaging, but with a 100% profit from all of a companies merchandise, few would turn away from the dark side. I say any scamming of Goodwill is fair game. They will still function as they do, as well as front a charitable, good-samaritan image and they will still get support from its victims.
