Cheese007
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6158144.html If it weren't for the small blurbs about game trailers and downloadable Gensis and TG-16 games I would've thought that decided to scrap playing games altogether. So adding HDMI to the low-end package and slashing $100 off of the price (at least for Japan) doesn't qualify as major news?

I don't live in Japan. But I'll bet that is great and MAJOR news for Japanee's people. YEAHHHH!!!! JAPANEE's PEOPLE!!! Still won't buy one unless they drop the price in the US. If it's still region-free, it'd be cheaper to import a J unit than grab a US one.
Jess Ragan
Good grief, Sega's willing to whore out their licenses to anyone and everyone who will buy them. From GameTap to the Wii to the Playstation 3, there's no place you CAN'T get crusty old Genesis games. I was actually hoping that Sony would continue to turn a blind eye to their customers and pay the price for their arrogance. Ten years is too long for any one company to dominate the video game industry... a changing of the guard is long overdue. JR
Atarifever
If they price drop by $100 here in Canada the base PS3 will be cheaper than the premium 360. Edited September 22, 2006 by Atarifever
eric_ruck
They're probably responding to the new 360 value packages, which do look quite attractive (something like a core 360 with three decent pack in games for the equivalent of $265 US). On the one hand there probably won't be throngs of Japanese customers lining up for this package, just because, well, there won't. On the other hand Sony probably needs to take the edge of the arrogance. And maybe they should worry a little that a hundred thousand or so niche players who buy a 360 instead of a PS3 might make their numbers look less good against Wii. Maybe they're worried about the Ross Perot effect. Eric
