is any one actually buying a ps3?

No plans on buying a PS3. I did buy the Playstation and PS2 when they came out. I'm sure there will eventually be some compelling (to me) games on the PS3, but I can wait a while for them and perhaps the system will come down in price by then. Until then I'll just play with my Wii. ;)

ehh I probably would, but I highly doubt my chances of snagging one near launch or shortly afterward (I don't buy into that pre-ordering crap). I'd also easily ask for it as a christmas gift since the relatives are always screaming for something to get me, but I highly doubt a bunch of older ladies and whatnot would be savvy enough to score one before christmas either. :P

So yeah, eventually of course. More later than sooner probably.

Hell may just freeze over before I get a PS3. I have yet to own any Sony systems. Then again, it'll be a while before I get a Wii or 360 either, as I'm still trying to milk the DS, GameCube, and XBOX for all they're worth.

Well, OK, as soon as Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is out, I'll probably be looking seriously at the Wii.

But PS3? I can't even imagine what would make me want one.

Nope. I'll just stick with my gaming PC for now as I don't see enough games that grab my attention on it yet so I may as well spend the cash on upgrading to SLi or get a Wii. I would like to get a Wii, see if it turns out to be as compelling as everyone says, but I won't be getting that right away either.

The PS3 was criminally overhyped because of the cell processor. Since then we've had one news item after another talking about how the cell won't live up to its R&D budget and the architecture is getting progressively crippled.

Remember when Apple decided to go Intel? People were wondering why they didn't use the cell processor. Now nobody is really expecting the cell to do what they said it would. They are just expecting the PS3 to be comparable but no better than the Xbox360 yet harder to code for.

My entire collection of 7800 and 800xl hardware and software cost me less than what the ps3 is going to cost, so basically I already spent it. I did buy the ps1 when the price came down to $100, but the extra controller was another $25, and 2 games were $50, so it isn't just the price of the system, it's also the games and hardware you have to buy with it. The bottom line is, I seriously doubt it.

That doesn't even compare to what Microsoft did with the 360. The had that special on MTV with the unveiling and showed about 10 minutes of gaming stuff and the rest was celebrities talking and then some band played. They also did that Mountain Dew sweepstakes as well as that launch party that lasted hours on G4. But it obviously didn't stop me from buying one. I been reading IGN's hands on with the PS3. It was an interesting read, it would be nice if there was more as well as hands on stuff about the Wii.
