Which game do you want to play for week #8 of the NES HSC?

Special Halloween edition of the NES HSC!

 

There are about twice as many "spooky" themed NES games, but the others don't keep a score so aren't really suitable for this. But feel free to play them to get in the mood!

 

I have played through, at least briefly, all the games above so here's a quick guide if you want:

 

-Castlevania games: Side scrolling platformer. Kill Dracula. Great, great games.

-Chiller: Use your light gun or move a little crosshairs around to shoot monsters. Absolutely, completely sucks.

-Ghostbusters II: Side scrolling platformer. Shoot ghosts. Get frustrated with the bad controls. Not very good.

-Ghosts 'n' Goblins: Side scrolling platformer. You are a knight; rescue your girl from a demon. Amazingly hard, but pretty good port.

-Ghoul School: You wander through a school killing creepy monsters. It's ok.

-Nightmare on Elm Street: Side scrolling platformer (do you see the pattern?). Punch out monsters. Collect bones. Eventually brawl with Freddy, I assume. It's alright.

-The Addams Family: Side scrolling platformer. Wander through the Addam's Family world, jumping on monsters and collecting money. Ok.

-Bram Stoker's Dracula: Side scrolling platformer. Kill monsters. Try to kill Dracula. Pretty good game.

-Zombie Nation: Side scrolling shooter. Weird...you are a giant floating head. Shoot stuff. Die quickly.

Most of those don't keep score; I rejected Xenophobe because it wasn't within the theme enough, plus there are plenty of games to vote for already.

Not Chiller, I had that cartridge for a few years, and boy was it lousy. My vote goes for either Castlevania or Ghosts 'n' Goblins.

Good choice. Ghosts 'n' Goblins is an old favorite of mine, and it sure is tough, but you can't say you didn't get your money's worth in the challenge department!

 

If you have a Sega Genesis, check out Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, as that's a very good port of the arcade game in my opinion.
