holygrailvideogames.com
This link is from Fatwallet. No guarantees on this one. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...f=06&loc=01 or the cheaper version http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...f=06&loc=01 The people who have tried it so far are getting confirmation emails but I don't believe it is supposed to be available to the public yet. spacecadet
Sony - PlayStation 3 20GB System ABC SKU: 8008513 Scheduled for Ground delivery Estimated Arrival: 11/17-11/24/2006 We shall see... And yeah, I got an order confirmation email - that means nothing. The people on Fatwallet operate under the same misconception a lot of people do, which is that order confirmation is some kind of contract. The only contract occurs once your card is actually charged - at that point, the retailer has 30 days to either ship your order or give you the option to refund your money. There's no other implied contract between a customer and mail order retailer. (I used to work customer service for a mail order retailer.) So I'm not gonna hold my breath on this, but we can still hope. btw thanks for the link, assuming it does work. I've been holding out waiting for something like this. I refuse to ever stand in line again for a console launch. Edited November 5, 2006 by spacecadet

spacecadet
Exactly. Either they send me one or they don't - no sweat Yeah, honestly my guess is that they leave the preorders intact and just ship them as they get units... which means we could be in for a long wait. They might give us the option to cancel, but it'll be worded such that it seems like they're getting shipments all the time and ours is just around the corner. So it's gonna be tough to close that door now that it's opened. I almost hope they just cancel all the orders if they don't have enough. Reading through the Fatwallet forums, there are like 12 pages of posts already and a lot of people ordered 2 or 3 units (I thought about it, but assuming this is legit, that's a lot of units suddenly flooding Ebay - prices are gonna fall through the floor. Besides, I don't have that kind of money up front). It seems like we've gotta be pretty far back in line by now, and I doubt they're getting anywhere close to this many units. moycon
The pre-order button is no longer an option. That is a good sign...That maybe they reached the number of units they knew were getting in...Either that or they caught the mistake and stopped the pre-ordering. spacecadet
Some people on FW are now saying their orders were cancelled, others saying they talked to CSR's who said the preorder was a mistake. Checked my order and it's still in process. They could be going through and manually canceling all the orders and just haven't gotten to all of them yet (you think that sounds unlikely; like I said I did this for a few years and the systems widely used in this industry are archaic). But I'm still holding out hope that they're only canceling the orders that came in after they were sold out, and leaving intact the rest. I'll keep checking over the next few days; I gotta think if they don't cancel by like Tuesday, then we can relax. I'm assuming it will get canceled or held out to next year, and I'll be pleasantly surprised if anything else happens
jedijeff
I think the earliest we will find out what is going on is Monday morning. If it does turn out to be legit, orders should be limited to 1 per person/household imho.
spacecadet
I think the earliest we will find out what is going on is Monday morning. If it does turn out to be legit, orders should be limited to 1 per person/household imho. Yeah, so far it looks to me like the people who have gotten cancellations were the ones that got greedy. Seems that way, anyway; the people who are complaining on FW are the guys who placed like 15 different orders. As far as BB themselves go, it seems like they don't yet quite have a unified response. Different CSR's tell people different things. All I know is my order is still in the system, and every minute that goes by is another minute they had to cancel it but didn't. I don't want to jinx it, but if some people got cancellations 12 hours ago, and others haven't, I'm starting to think if your order hasn't been cancelled by now, it probably won't be. Of course, that doesn't mean your order will actually ship on 11/17. They may still just be purging what they consider the totally bogus orders and keeping the rest to fulfill whenever they can, which was basically my original prediction. spacecadet
Seems it was a glitch: http://www.ps3land.com/article-951.php As some on FW have pointed out, that's not really a definitive source. They called and spoke to one CSR. Others have called and spoken to other CSR's and gotten a different answer. That's why I said BB seems not to have a unified response yet. There's no way this was a "glitch". This is one of the biggest products of the year and you know BB are watching over their distribution system like hawks. So, the *one* product that goes up for preorder by mistake is coincidentally the one product that shouldn't ever have gone up by mistake? And it was due to some technical error that only affected the PS3? Talk about bad luck! I doubt this happened exactly the way BB meant it to, but I also seriously doubt that it had anything to do with a "system glitch". They obviously had set up the preorder system in advance (that quote saying "Best Buy doesn't do preorders" is nonsense); the only question is whether or not they meant it to go live at that point. My guess is they didn't, but there's been no indication of how they'll react now that they have about $5 million worth of orders. Are they really going to turn away all that money? Anyway, it's all kinda moot until we see what BB actually does. So far (and it is now Monday), they have not cancelled all the orders as PS3Land said the CSR told him they would. They still could, though, but I'm not taking PS3Land's word for it. Edited November 6, 2006 by spacecadet
