Classic Pac
I don't know if you could call the original Impossible Mission 7800 a good game. But the only people who have ever beaten it, can be found here.
jedijeff
I've never compared them side by side but I think they did a pretty decent job with the 7800 version. If only someone would take our flawed Impossible Mission carts and convert them to the 'fixed' version for a fee that would be cool.
+Propane13
Cough *Legal issues*. Cough *unavailable boards*. Personally, I think that's a helluva idea regardless. Possible Mission would be a very lucrative cart to sell. I think the gutting of innocent 7800 carts tho-- well, that hurts just to think about. If someone makes a 7800 board that supports this, then, sure! I think it's a great idea! Cannibalizing carts-- well, that's a hard call. I do have a cannibalized cart that plays "Possible Mission" at home. As for legal issues, that cuts in on potential "for a tiny profit" sales, which anyone doing the hardware work would likely want payment for (as cart disassembly and reassembly is a pain). So, good idea, but may need some work before it could be a reality. If someone's up for doing it, feel free to contact me for the ROM (which is out there anyway). -John P.S. Finishing this game made me feel like a million bucks!
Trip_Cannon
My personal opinion, but the 7800 is not as good as the C64 counterpart. Even though most of the gameplay is the same, the C64 is a little more graphically pleasing.

I thought they looked largely the same. The C64 version was really helped by that sound though.

Mayhem
The C64 version is king. No other version comes close. The 7800 version is not bad, but it's a lot harder to somersault over robots for starters. And yes I've beaten the 7800 version but that's cos I'm in PAL land
supercat
Cough *Legal issues*.Cough *unavailable boards*. Especially considering that the original cart was clearly defective, I don't think there'd be any legal basis for complaint if someone took old "Impossible Mission" carts, removed the ROM, stuck in a new ROM, and possibly just glued the old ROM someplace to show proof of ownership. Does the original ROM use active-high or active-low chip-select? I think the gutting of innocent 7800 carts tho-- well, that hurts just to think about. So gut the not-so-innocent "Really Impossible Mission" carts.

The spy is shaped a little weird in the 7800 version with a square knee and large nose. The robots look different too. Theres some other stuff. But nothing too big. MegaManFan
If someone here was to create a truly beatable version of Impossible Mission 7800 I know I would buy one. I could have sworn some high profile website claimed to be selling these along with Save Mary on a 7800 board, complete with spiffy labels, but I don't know what ever happened to it and I think sales of the bugfix IM didn't pan out. Interesting. Can someone write up a detailed explanation on exactly what happens that makes the game unwinnable? I've always wanted to know how something like this could have happened. Not to mention how it got past the play testers... Tempest
Lemmi
DP says not all the pieces are there http://www.digitpress.com/reviews/impossiblemission.htm and the atari 7800 faq says this so either someone is wrong or these pages need to be changed which is it? http://www.atariage.com/7800/faq/?SystemID=7800#cat3_7 Is 7800 Impossible Mission really impossible?Yes. The cart was released with a bug where some of the pieces you need were hidden under computer terminals, but the terminals cannot be searched. This bug was fixed, but Atari probably never released the updated version. The PAL version is not impossible, as the programmer of the PAL version fixed the bug. A special thanks to Harry Dodgson for this tidbit.
Rik
Gettting the fixed version of impossible mission is too much hassle, and im not tech savvy enough,to modify,i'll just settle for the original!too bad they screwed this game up,it would've been rated as a true classic for the systemI think.
