RickHarrisMaine
I'm now seriously considering doing just that.....I wonder what time I should get there..... anyone else doing that?
Uzumaki
Start camping NOW. There's lines already forming according to this morning's news. Any stores that doesn't offer presells but are getting PS3 will get a lengthy line before long and with PS3 reaching 5k on eBay, no doubt greedy resellers are hogging the line space. I'd suggest camping Meijer as well. They never do presells and sin ce they are open 24/7 you don't need to pitch a tent or a portable oven for food. Just waltz to their deli area, grab a bite or 2, etc.
moycon
I wonder what percentage of folks that actually get a PS3 day one are planning on keeping the system? I'm guessing a fairly small amount. 19% doesn't seem outrageous. Hell if I wasn't oncall I'd do it. Impossible to find a better investment right now. Invest $650.... double or more your money in a few days. Woe is the un-rich gamer right now. It's hard to compete with a doctor trying to buy his sons love for Christmas. Mendon
Last night, here in Florida (near Tampa), they have shown on TV lines at Best Buy that are already over 75 people deep. And then I've read reports on the 'net that some Best Buy's (and other stores) are NOT letting people camp out and the security people are chasing them away under threat of arrest. Supposedly some Best Buy's are telling people that they will give out tickets (matching the number of units) starting at 7am on Friday but if you arrive before Friday morning then you will be asked to leave. RickHarrisMaine
Hmm, maybe I should call my local Best Buy to find out what their policy is. Last time I camped out for anything, it was Who tickets!
MCHufnagel
There's a Best Buy on my way to work. I'll just drive by, beep my horn and if the weather is bad, laugh!
NE146
Screw that man.. what's the rush? I have zero problems waiting until it's easy to find and might actually have some good SOFTWARE out. Now as far as selling it.. yeah so you can make a couple hundred to a grand. But lining up for days and dealing with the hassle you will encounter is hard labor! I'd like to think my time is more valuable than that. Not to mention, it's no secret the majority of the people buying PS3's are doing it to sell anyway. I'm letting the circus run it's course.. then I'll casually stroll into Best Buy a couple months later and pick one up off the floor and a title or two. Nice and easy
RickHarrisMaine
I checked this out on Google News and it turns out that yes, lots of Best Buy's have lines already. But I'm not sure about mine. Portland is a small town, and it would be quite newsworthy if there were lines already. But there has been nothing in the local paper about it. So maybe coming out Thursday night, around midnight or so, wait a few hours and see what happens might not be a bad idea. I mean, if you could make $1000 on it, then you could conceivably get one for free a bit later....
SomeGuyWithDSL
Last time I camped out for anything, it was Who tickets! I camped at Best Buy for the Xbox 360. All I have to say is 3 a.m. November 22nd was DANG COLD standing outside in a bare parking lot with 30 mph north winds. Our rather congenial group actually took turns making hot chocolate and coffee runs to Burger King across the street. Makes me wish Christmas was warmer
Gabriel
If the numbers are as limited as has been said, no one is getting a PS3 this holiday other than scalpers. When the PS2 was launched, some businessmen in the area pooled the money together and then gathered enough people to fill all spots in the lines for PS2s in town. If you wanted a spot in line, you paid them $500. If they didn't sell a spot in line, they got a PS2 at retail price and then put it on ebay for over $1000. The managers of the respective stores were in on this and were getting a cut of the profits. I imagine the same thing will happen again. bruser_inc
I talked with a friend who lives near the BB here in town, he said that about 15 people were camping out already, each person looking to buy one. Two other people were camping on the other side of the entrance for the Wii. Wow.

I need to drive by the closest BB today (there are many of them here in Austin) and see how many people are camping out there. I remember when the 360 came out, there were people camped out there, complete with tents and all. I must remember to bring my camera. ..Al'
heavy-sixer
My friend just emailed me and said there were 10 people in line at our local Super Walmart last night.
Ghost Soldier
Sounds like another 400 dollar furby to me. Who in there right mind buys this stuff for extreme amounts. Just so they can say "my kid got one". Two days after christmas the shelfs will be stocked with them.

Go ahead and tell your kids on December 25 that you're going to buy their presents the following week. Kids don't generally take to IOU's on Christmas day very well. Ghost Soldier
"Spoken like an obvious non-parent." I have two kids and I don't have to spend a 1000 dollars on the must have item. They still appreciate and love there parents on x-mas day. I just think its ridiculous to pay those amounts on ebay when a few days or weeks the stores will be overflowing with them. Nuff said on that Edited November 15, 2006 by Ghost Soldier

Albert
Well, I drove by the closest Best Buy (at the corner of 360 and 183 for those of you here in Austin) and to my amazement, not a single person was outside waiting in line. I know I've seen people here in line for other console launches, so either the Best Buy management or the shopping square management must have chased any potential campers away. Undeterred, I went a block down to Circuit City where I spied.. CAMPERS! Only two tents setup, but I saw a few people milling about: It's really windy here today and is going to get quite cold (for Austin) the next two nights. Fun fun! ..Al

True, but when all is said and done you might end up waiting longer than if you just didn't freeze yourself at all. Nice pics Albert, I might head over to BB and CC tonight and snap some pictures. Depends on if I go out with friends for dinner or not.
