Lord Helmet
Holy crap that is really shitty. You have to be careful on ebay. READ THE AUCTION AND KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BIDDING ON!!!
jbanes
I hope that 9126635472 enjoys all three of his Playstations. He certainly paid more than enough for them! (What a deal!)
chadtower
I don't feel all that bad for a person who not only was so desperate for a consumer item that they would pay that much over retail but also didn't bother to read the description. I do agree with "buyer beware", but the auction is intentionally misleading and people who try to take advantage of others in this fashion should be launched into the sun. ..Al
Gregory DG
Wow. What a jerk for creating an auction like that and what a dummy for bidding on it...
+FujiSkunk
Maybe this is why Microsoft named it the XBox 360 instead of the XBox 2. I don't think "XBoxes, 360 of them!" would have made for as profitable of a scam.
+jetset
Nah, it's not the fault of the buyer, or the seller. Lets blam ebay instead. It's always thier fault anyway right?
Mendon
Nah, it's not the fault of the buyer, or the seller. Lets blam ebay instead. It's always thier fault anyway right? Yep, it sure is. I've always said that because of the scammers on eBay, no auction listing should be viewable by buyers until an employee of eBay has actually read the listing and hits an approve button. Sure, it might mean eBay hires a few more people but nothing wrong with lowering the unemployment rate. Approving text and content works when you place a classified ad in a newspaper, it works when you place a personal ad on the Internet and it could work easily with eBay. But eBay much more prefers to just rake in the listing & final value fee's than take any sort of responsibility for what transpires on their site. Yep, I blame eBay for allowing the shysters to conduct their business. Mendon Edited November 20, 2006 by Mendon

I dunno... HOT ITEM! Not PRE-ORDERED..HAVE IN HAND...All are American Systems THERE IS NOWHERE TO FIND EVEN THE 20GB SYSTEMS THIS CHEAP....BUY THESE INSTEAD! FREE SHIPPING!!! PAYPAL ONLY! Will Ship Within 5 days of Payment. FUN FOR ALL THE KIDS! FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES! You're bidding on Sony Playstations, 3 of them. Bid with confidence. No Games on Controllers included. systems only. I don't think it's misleading. Well, except for the "HOT ITEM" line, which I suppose, if you want to be technical, is subjective so I guess it *could* be true in some sense of the words. That 3rd-to-last line there is completely transparent. It's not so much misleading as it is taking advantage of idiots. You don't have to lie or mislead to take advantage of idiots. What I wonder is - will the guy pay? Seems unlikely. Edited November 21, 2006 by vdub_bobby
jbanes
I don't think it's misleading. Well, except for the "HOT ITEM" line, which I suppose, if you want to be technical, is subjective so I guess it *could* be true in some sense of the words. There is one line that is excrutiatingly misleading: THERE IS NOWHERE TO FIND EVEN THE 20GB SYSTEMS THIS CHEAP....BUY THESE INSTEAD! His sentence implies that this is a 20GB or better system, but then contradicts itself by saying "BUY THESE INSTEAD". If you're not paying enough attention, you might think that he's saying this system is a PS3. Especially since the original Playstation didn't have a hard drive, so his implications can be quite confusing. I think the whole thing is quite entertaining, but I sincerely hope that the buyer stiffs the guy.
shadow460
That auction isn't very funny at all. It's frickin' hilarious!
devils advocate
That auction isn't very funny at all. It's frickin' hilarious! I don't think it's funny at all. I just think it is criminally misleading. I'm betting no court would ever uphold that contract. Imagine if Best Buy or Walmart ever did the same sort of offer to purchase. I'm betting peoples reactions would be very different. There are consumer protection laws in most areas to help prevent this sort of thing, I guess it would be up to the individual to find out if they applied in his locale. You know, I feel I'm smart enough to steer clear of stuff like this. But, I also know that there ARE people out there, often through no fault of their doing, who would fall for these types of scams. The elderly, who grew up in a society with much different values, lesser educated individuals, those with a lesser grasp of the english language (which could be for many reasons) And the many whom are just generally a few clowns short of a circus. If we are generally caring people, we should want to help them, and protect them. Not laugh at them.
Scumdogg
I agree wholeheartedly with Devil's Advocate on this one. The situation is far more sad than it is funny. I don't know who to feel sorrier for though, the poor sap that blew $900 a month before christmas, or the seller who is obviously going to rot in hell. By the way, there's another one up just like it. I reported it to ebay for fraud, others should do the same. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...type=osi_widget Edited November 22, 2006 by Scumdogg

Gabriel
I don't feel all that bad for a person who not only was so desperate for a consumer item that they would pay that much over retail but also didn't bother to read the description. Agreed. Only a total moron would have read that description and believed it was for a PS3. And only an absolute brain dead retard would have 1) Bid $900 without carefully reading the description and being certain of what they were bidding on AND 2) Bid $900 without contacting the seller first, especially with a description like that. MegaManFan
eBay is now requiring "proof of ownership" on Wii and PS3 sales, including a serial # and a photo of the receipt, so it looks like they're cracking down on this sort of misleading information hard. cyberfluxor
If you look at the winners feedback it looks as though the person has been buying a few Wiis and PS3s, maybe for a store or a bunch of family members. A little off tangent, I saw an auction where someone was selling email addresses from Yahoo and Hotmail called "PSthreeSeller" and whatnot. No one bid on them.
