What's the latest Atari related thing(s) you've bought on ebay?

I bought this off e-bay, it is Atari related :)   Because it turns out I love desoldering chips and socketing them.  One of my favorite hobbies for now.

But, I am also learning to stop buying everything off e-bay.  I bought a 929D V desoldering iron for $7 off Ali express, and it works well too. I bought all the parts for 20 A8picocarts off pcbway as well.

I didn't get those to be a pico cart, I bought them to be a little computer that interfaces with the Atari, have in mind a hobby project to do with it.

Now that I finally figured out soldering, I'm going to take a course on electrical engineering soon... I suppose that is a bucket list item.

There is desoldering boards/chips and then there is desoldering Atari XE boards/chips. :)

This is the one that I use. It really works well for desoldering vintage boards without lifting traces or damaging pads.

just doesn't FF or RW

ah the old 'sprung clutch' failure.. a bit of superglue usually reconnects the 2 halves back together. you just have to somehow clamp it while the glue sets because the spring tries to push them apart!

I don't often post stuff often here unless it's really something rare... but this one...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/285548725337

I picked up 9 of those recently.  Only mentioning it because I've used these SimpleTech 1gb cards on various ST and A8 CF card mass storage solutions and I've found that they actually work very well.  (To be specific, I've only tried the 1gb ones with this specific yellow label).  But I've used them with CF AztecMonsters, various IDE adapters (for the ST), AtariMax MyIDE ][ (cart), Side2, and running an A8 BBS with IDE2.0+ for a couple years... all without one single problem.

(Well, one problem... sometimes I forget to write or mark them and I lose track of what is on them... but they never lose track of what's on them).

(I am in no way affiliated with SimpleTech and have not received compensation for this testimonial :) )

All sold out

Well, yeah.. because I bought the last 3 sets. :)

But thought I'd pass it along for the future since they tend to show up often enough (and I can't grab them all myself even though I try). :)

Something tells me we need a website dedicated to all the repair information for these things. :(  Tape drives are so much the red-headed step-kid. :(

in normal operation its permanently loaded by the spring. no wonder they 'eject' themselves after all these years! luckily there's nowhere for the top cap to escape to hehe

  • 1 month later...

I bought this bundle recently.  It wasn't cheap but I've been after an 800xl with the mechanical keyboard for a while now and I kept missing out on them so pulled the trigger when I saw this with a buyout price.  I think the extras justify the price (haven't checked the koala pad yet to see if it works though)

My latest acquisition was an Atari 600XL. The seller was accepting offers, and the unit was listed as "Will not power on". It turned out that the system (especially the keyboard) needed a thorough cleaning. The LED wasn't working when I received it, but it did boot. The LED works after the cleaning had been performed.

As an aside, I contacted the seller to inform him that my offer price was based on anticipating spending some money on parts to repair the system, and not for a working system. But since it didn't need repair, I wanted to send him some additional funds since it was worth more than what I paid. He accepted my offer, and I send him the extra funds. I wanted it to be a fair deal for both of us.
