  1. If were talking in terms of arcade accurate as much as possible, many of the Namco and Atari arcade games that were released for the Genesis are very close like Burning Force and Roadblasters. Gauntlet 4 is basically the first Gauntlet with extra features and amazing music I might add. Rolling Thunder 2 is almost exactly like the arcade.
  2. I'm a huge fan of Analogue's consoles which are FPGA based. I recently bought the pocket mainly for the arcade cores. Lately I've been annoyed with it because every auto update, some cores no longer work or are stuck in test mode, with no way out, I assume because the designer of the core didn't create a more advanced button/joystick assignment layout that require specific buttons to exit out of test mode. Otherwise, I've been heavily into MAME for over 20 years, and I find most games work just fine through software emulation on a decent PC. There are other issues with the Pocket when being used on a Dock... so, I'm not sure if I'm embracing it as much as I'd like to. I may buy a dedicated mini PC and install MAME on it and add it to my family of Analogue consoles that are hooked up to my OLED monitor.
  3. I kinda agree, but the Playstation had a bunch of retro titles and 2D stuff. The Raiden Project and the Namco Museum Collection comes to mind. I think the 32X was just bad planning on Sega's part. The 32x was released right before the release of their Saturn console. I bet if the the 32x had more of a lifespan, they probably would have released a bunch more arcade ports. I'm willing to bet Outrun was planned for the 32x... but they decided to make it for the Saturn instead.
  4. Another thing I wanted to add about the VA7, is the console shell quality. It is significantly cheaper and cost reduced compared to the early HDG Model 1 shells. I can't comment on the later model 1 shells without the screen printed "High Definition Graphics", but the VA7 shells do not have a removable plastic ring shaped trim piece. The VA7 shell is also noticeably cheaper in terms of excess plastic on edges from the injected molding process. I actually scrapped up a cartridge label while inserting and removing because of rough and uneven plastic edges around the cart slot. Regarding the board, I managed to get a Crystal Clear Audio Mod and installed it on my VA7... but I also de-soldered the volume slider, removed it to isolate the correct pins to attach directly to the isolated headphone jack, remounted the slider, and ran the sound outputs from the CCAM to the slider so I can have adjustable volume through the headphone jack. The sound is pretty amazing now. As stated above, my VA7 has perfect video with no jailbars so, I left it alone.
  5. That's cool, I didn't know they made a smaller version of the PBC or in this case the MSCII... I bet a 32x clone could fit into that enclosure nowadays.
  6. I was wondering why they didn't make the 32x look more like the PBC in terms of shell design, then I realized they had to make the 32x work with either a model 1 or a model 2 Genesis... so they decided on the mushroom design, leaning more towards the newer model 2 form factor.
  7. Hi, I have a VA7 board that I'd like to at the very least, just do a sound mod to since the video is fine with no jailbars. There are no VA7 triple bypass install guides that I can find, and was wondering what's involved with this mod. Did you have to remove any caps? I have a triple bypass board that I'd like to use since Mega Amps and CCSMs seem to be impossible to get... but I would only mod the sound, if that's even possible. AND I would like to route the sound ONLY through the headphone jack, again... if that's even possible.
  8. I just bought a VA7, and I discovered that the video is awesome... with no jailbars that I can see. But the sound is kinda shitty. Currently looking for a decent sound mod board for this board version.
  9. Hi folks, I was wondering if anyone on here is doing any RetroSix Clean Screen mods on their Game Gears. I have a GG board that is recapped by me, Clean Screen board installed and wired, but I'm having some issues getting the Clean Screen to be... well, clean. I visually checked all the usual things like solder bridging, reflowing solder points, LCD ribbon cable, etc. I even swapped out Clean Screen boards, LCDs, and caps, to rule out defective components. I even recapped a GG power board to test it with and still the same issues. I'm thinking it's an issue with the GG board itself, maybe a bad component like a resistor or something, but I have no knowledge of most of the other soldered on components other than caps... Sorry for the video being sideways, it would seem the screen is wired correctly with correct colors, controls work, etc. but there's the varying horizontal lines, usually rainbow colored as seen in attached video. Also worth noting is this model has TMSS, but it's jumpered at J1. Sonic lines.MOV
  10. Opcode seems to only like doing things on facebook. Aside from that, they don't seem to have a functioning website, and although they do send email notifications to Super Game Club members... there is no link to the digital ROM purchase. So, not sure what the deal is.
  11. Moving the console away from the TV has no effect.
  12. Hope you don't mind me hijacking this really old thread, but I wanted to avoid creating any duplicate threads regarding the topic of CRT issues. I have a 1987 JVC 13" low end TV that has a few screen issues through the coaxial cable input. Not much I can do as far as adjusting things on the inside, so I figured I'd replace a few of the high voltage caps... and see if it made a difference. That didn't work so, now I'm wondering if you guys have any ideas of what could be causing the image distortions. If you look at the pics you will see that at the top of the screen there's a "zig zag" effect that shoots across from left to right... this is happening on the top and bottom. However, it is mostly seen when a game has vertical lines or objects. But when playing a game like Sonic the Hedgehog, as the game scrolls... the palm trees do get distorted as they move from left to right or vise versa. Any ideas?? Also, with the "grid" test pattern, ALL the vertical lines are "zig zaggy" ... which is strange.
  13. If only it looked that good. I don't expect it to be perfect on a CRT, but after doing an A/V mod, I would at least expect it to NOT look like RF, which is what mine kinda looks like.
  14. Hi guys, I have an Atari 2600 Jr. that I recently a/v modded. Normally people have color or brightness issues after the mod, but I'm seeing what I can only describe as a "video buffering blocks when streaming" effect. Don't know how else to describe it. Not all games seem to be effected by this issue, but it shows a lot in Pole Position. Please refer to the pic, if you look on the race track grey area just above the car, you can barely make out the "blocky" effect that I'm getting. Sorry, picture is a little rough do to taking a pic of a CRT screen. I'll see if I can take a video. Any idea what could be causing this?? Also, I replaced the caps, the large one and the tiny one... those were the only two I saw on the board. I tested the console on 3 different CRTS with composite a/v inputs and it shows up on all of them. I also played the same game from original cart and a Harmony cart and it was the same issue on both.
