moycon 2,286 Posted April 19, 2005 Whoah! Do those make good pets? Never heard of a Prairie Dog as a pet. Quote Link to comment
Shannon 451 Posted April 23, 2005 Yeah they make great pets although I'm not sure if it is true of all prairie dogs but we have a male and a female. The male although "sloppy" is alot friendlier and will let you hold him. He LOVES to be petted. Whereas the female is the one that keeps the cage clean, but she does not like to be held. She will let you pet her though. She also yips everytime there is a loud noise in the house (like coughing). So maybe its just the "lookout prairie dog personality". (In the wild they would have lookout prairie dogs that would bark at any sign of danger). Trying not to be long winded. Anyway hopper is very sociable, and prairie dogs always greet ya with a "kiss". Like any other rodent they will chew on things. The only "unusual" thing is their digestive system is very fickle so ya have to be careful what you feed them. (mostly foods high in grains as well as apples, carrots, etc). Quote Link to comment
