tyga
Hi. I have an original Namco Puckman cocktail from 1980 (the same as this one this site http://www.puckman.net/artwork/cocktails/n...-cocktail-b.jpg ) and i was wondering if you could help me fix it? We got this machine about 10years ago, and it had been fixed up but a specialist. The coin thing has been permanently disconnected, as it is used on free play, and a few wires have been soldered onto the main board. However now there is something else wrong with it. it starts off fine, but after about a minute of play, the screen starts scrambling and it becomes unplayable. I have pulled out all the removable chips from the board, and sanded the connections as they were a bit corroded, but this doesn't help. I cannot see any obvious problems with any of the wiring. Do you think this is fixable? and any ideas how? The machine is not in the best of condition, but i want to fix it up. Any if needs be i will pull it to bits, and check out EVERYTHING. Also what would a machine like this be worth, as it seems quite rare.
Dr Galaga
Since it is not in the best of shape, it is kind of hard to say how much it is worth. In really nice condition it might be worth around $700. Mikes Arcade does board repairs. He has repaired my Ms. Pac-Man and Centipede. By scrambled, do you mean random symbols? An image of the screen may help.

tyga
where are you located? I'm located in the Midlands in the UK here are a couple of pics of the screen messed up, and a low quality video of it happening http://s128.photobucket.com/albums/p197/ty...nt=MOV00035.flv
Cassidy Nolen
For starters, its running a Ms. Pac chipset.... The original was of course a Pac Man. I would start with a diagnostic chipset from http://www.twobits.com/parts/ Worth it if you ever plan on other pac repairs. As for that board, you can also send it out and have it repaired state-side. You may find one that someone would also sell you outright. BTW, sanding is a no-no on the legs of chips. Sets in deep scratches which then further the chances of breaking the legs. Best to use either a contact cleaning solution or a pencil eraser Here is the BEST Pac Tech page I know of. Kevin REALLY knows his stuff. http://users.adelphia.net/%7E68hc11/pacfile/pacfile.htm Cheers, C
EricDeLee
I once one a Puckman off of a guy in El Paso. Won it for $75. He kept dodging me when it came time for me to pick it up... even though i already paid him. Sucks as i really wanted that machine! It was a cocktail... pretty good condition as well!
