jboypacman
I have always loved Wizard of Wor for the 2600.As a kid i would go down the street to play it at my friend Jimmy's house. Now fastfoward to now and i still love this game for the 2600.I havent played the 5200 version of this game and i was thinking about picking it up at some point. So i was wondering if the 5200 version is the same as the 2600? If this is the case then i wont really worry about ever getting it.Any feedback on this would be great thanks.
+Cafeman
Nope, they are different. 5200 is best.
Paranoid
Personal opinion. Wizard of War is one of those titles that suffers for the stock 5200 joysticks. There are times when you want to stay at one end of a hall or another and it is really difficult. Best enjoyed with a digital stick.
phuzaxeman
get it. awesome game on the 5200 :-) if you know how to use your controllers, there's no problem.
+remowilliams
The 5200 version is definitely better. And as Paranoid noted, much more enjoyable without the 5200 stock controllers. Then again what isn't? However, if you want the best version of Wizard of Wor, then the Bally Astrocade beats them all!
Vic George 2K3
Far as I know, the 5200 version is identical to the 8-bit computer version.
+Cafeman
Also, you have to plug the controller into the right side port for 1-player games. Just like the coin-op.
jboypacman
Thanks guys. When i have the extra cash i will have to pick this one up.
Goochman
Funny - the 2600 is very well done IMHO. The 800 version is alot of fun also and less 'flashy' - It has more of the mazes like the original. My biggest griped on the 5200/00 version is the blue dragons look like crap........otherwise it looks/sounds like the original
Paranoid
Yeah, the 2600 version isn't bad. It is one of those titles that ports well to almost all platforms.
Shannon
The arcade version hands down, especially with the voice! That being said the 5200/800 version would be next (the joystick in port 1 is annoying though). The 2600 version is actually pretty good from what I remember. Paranoid
It is. The 2600 version. Arcade version first... but among the best home ports available, across the board. A lot like Berzerk in that aspect, IMHO.
k8track
However, if you want the best version of Wizard of Wor, then the Bally Astrocade beats them all! Just want to add my 2 cents and agree with remowilliams here. Among the home versions, the Bally Astrocade is the very best--it's simply wonderful, mind-blowing. You know how great the 5200, 8-bit, and even 2600 versions are, but the Bally Astrocade version is tops, so that's saying something.

Lord Helmet
Check out this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIgRrRlXr-w What version is that? The sound is all wrong.
jboypacman
I think it said it was the C64 version.
Shannon
C64 version. Actually not bad, although the sound is kinda wacked.
lowscore
I am one of the few, apparently, that prefers the 2600 W.O.W. in every way to the 5200 version. This does not mean I prefer all 2600 games to 5200 counterparts. Q*bert is vile on the 2600. 5200 controllers are perfectly suited to this game, and make the diagonal movements a breeze. +Cafeman
That was the C64 version? It looks pretty much better than the 5200 does. The enemies on the 5200 version are much blockier/low rez looking. but still a fun game. The sound is pretty good on the 5200 version. C64 version has higher rez sprites which make the Blue Dragons look great - the Red/Yellow Dragons, Worlock, WIzard of Wor and the Player sprites on the 8bit look pretty good. Its the blue dragons on the 8bit which make things look bad I think the 8bit version does a better job at the insane speed than the C64. +MrFish
I have always loved Wizard of Wor for the 2600. If you look in the homebrews section, they're actually doing a remake of the 2600 version.

A Sprite
Is the 5200 version the best common version of the game available legally? The PS2 emulation is horrible, and the Gamemaker sequel isn't bad, but loses the atmosphere...
