AtariMan1976
Do 5100 prototypes really exist?? Approximately how many are out there and how much would one expect to pay for one?
Atariman
Yep, at least one 5100 Prototype exists. If one were to come up for sale, I'd roughly estimate it would go for 1 arm, 1 leg, your left nut, and possibly your right one as well. Shawn
Wow that 5100 looks nice. The only 5200 jr's I have seen have been homemade ones and I have to say that proto looks a hella nicer
Lord Helmet
I would kill for a smaller 5200...the damn thing takes up WAYYYYY too much space. I'd love to unhook it, but I play it too much. I'd also like a smaller version of the CV. What was it with controller storage compartments?
Tempest
I've seen 3 or 4 5100's in various conditions. I'm not sure who owns them now. Tempest

Only real tricky part is to make sure when you cut the trim to make sure you do a good job or it will look like shit. Aside from that hack away and it gets ALOT smaller real fast. +Mitch
I have one. From what I remember there were twenty prototypes made with around five or six having been found. Mine is missing the shell but it does work. Mitch

Why would anyone want to do that? I really don't understand what's the big deal considering these old system's spacial dimensions. It's not like they're the size of the Univac or something. The appearances of these systems are half the fun. Why would you want a vintage console to look "modern"? It would be like wanting this: To look this this: It's an atrocity in my opinion. Henry Lee
If "to have" is more important than to "to appreciate" , we have to cut down on the sizes to fit more in a single space. Smaller is better
darthkur
^^^ There's always way's. Even if you have to build a honeycomb like series of shelving and stack it all in there with millimeters to spare than it's still worth conserving the consoles original integrity. Shawn
The coleco just looks more compact. Doesn't take away from the vintage look at all IMO with a quick Jenny Craig treatment.
