Planet Bob - C64 Video Longplays

Hi there!

Uh... what is a longplay you ask? Well, It started out a dozen years ago in the German 64'er magazine I think. (If the idea was just stolen from a foreign mag, I apologize for not knowing it any better ;) )

A classic longplay in the 64'er magazine was a lengthy and very in-depth article or series of articles detailing with lots of screenshots how to beat a certain C64 start to finish. It was also often packed into some sort of story. If you ever read the Clue Book of the Bard's Tale, you know what I mean.

Well, with VICE getting the ability to record games in history files (not unlike MAME INPs), this idea was transferred to a new level. A C64 video longplay is nothing else than a video of some experienced gamer playing a game start to finish.

This is not to be confused with a speed run: The main aim is to show "How it's done", and not to rush and shortcut through everything.

The C64 video longplay scene is somewhat organized and they collect their recordings here:

For example I can recommend watching the 64 people rescued Choplifter run, if you ever wanted to see that ;)

I'm now tempted to try such a recording myself, so maybe you see me trying to record a "Fort Apocalypse" longplay (or else) soon :)

Greetings,

Manuel
