homerwannabee
I just noticed this when I went to digg.com They had famous bad predictions. One of them was thinking Steve Jobs PC idea was stupid. Here is the quote. * “So we went to Atari and said, ‘Hey, we’ve got this amazing thing, even built with some of your parts, and what do you think about funding us? Or we’ll give it to you. We just want to do it. Pay our salary, we’ll come work for you.’ And they said, ‘No.’ So then we went to Hewlett-Packard, and they said, ‘Hey, we don’t need you. You haven’t got through college yet.’” Apple Computer Inc. founder Steve Jobs on attempts to get Atari and H-P interested in his and Steve Wozniak’s personal computer. Also sorry if this has been posted already.
Trooper
The reason for this was, as far as I can remember, that Atari felt that they didn't have the strength to diversify into home computers as well. This was in 76-77 and Atari had their hands full with the VCS. /T
Gunstar
Well, I'm most grateful they DID turn him down if this was the Apple I or Apple II, since the Atari 800 is FAR, FAR more advanced.
carmel_andrews
That's why Bushnell was also against Warner's starting up a home computer division At the time Bushnell was being shown the original apple (which to all intents and purposes was like the kim1/aim 65 type affair) Bushnell was already looking to 'offload' Atari somehow
