Brian R.
Remember that two-port 5200 I found in the trash? Well, it cleaned up really nice. It works - to a point. I can't fix it and can't find a way to get it fixed. Does replacing the entire mobo with a new one for $35 make sense? It would be nice to have a working two-port, in case something ever happened to my four-port, or its switchbox. I'm guessing the two-port 5200 will use any RF cable. Since the four-port also carries power, I'm assuming that's a special or unique kind of cable - right? Are the power supplies interchangeable between the two and four ports? Is there any way to tell if something is wrong with a power supply? I'm hesitant about using the one I found in the trash with the two-port. I don't think any of it ever got wet - I saved it in time - just something about using it makes me nervous.
Atariman
I'm assuming that you're getting the board from Best Electronics - is that what Bradley suggested? It seems odd that he would recommend replacing the entire board in the 5200 instead of just swapping out a few components. If that's the case, then I'm really not sure - I don't know what 5200s are going for nowadays. Either way, I'd hang onto it - and the old board if you DO replace it EDIT: and as far as I know the power supplies are interchangeable - I wouldn't be too worried about the one you found in the trash. It's probably fine. Edited July 5, 2007 by atariman

I'd be inclined to bet that the 4-port more or less requires a thicker one like the one it ships with, though.

I think I'll put the order in for it soon, once I decide if there's anything else I want. And yeah, I'd keep the old one.

Has anyone replaced the silver band on top of the console with a new one before? I understand they're self adhesive. If anyone has - After removing an old one, and cleaning up underneath it, does a new one go on OK? Or are there problems with it not sticking, sticking up, etc?
