jfalcon
I recently rediscovered that Compuserve is still running their text based environment under Compuserve "Classic". Anyone know what the current connection charges are and all that stuff? I do know you can access it via the internet by telnet to telnet://gateway.compuserve.com
Tempest
Neat! Now if only I had a Compuserve ID... Tempest
jfalcon
What's neat is that the good old "GO PHONES" is still running. From the User ID: type 77770,101 It will barf out ?? LOGSTU - System temporarily unavailable Then just type "PHONES" without quotes at the next User ID: prompt.

Sadly I didn't really get online until the dawn of the Internet era (94-95ish). Tempest

According to the Indian tech I called stateside, it's all still pretty much there but he didn't quote me info because their "classic" department was having phone issues. I'll have to look at some stuff I'm putting together about X.25. But Genie is long gone according to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GEnie

Prodos8
Never used Compuserve, but did used to dial-up "The Source" on my TI-99/4a computer and download lots of goodies.

oesii
I was on Compuserve in the mid '80s for only a little bit until I got hooked by local BBS's. I remember carefully metering my monthly minutes so the parents didn't complain too much
telengard
That's mindblowing. In wonder about GEnie and Delphi?? I used both of those. Both great services, as well as Compuserve. I miss them. Gonna fire up telnet right now and try Compuserve. Ran up *huge* phone bills back in the 80s. ~telengard
BydoEmpire
That IS amazing. I *think* I subscribed to Compuserve very briefly, I can't quite remember. I got my first modem for the Amiga 500 (1200 baud - it SCREAMED!), but I mostly did local BBS's. Never had a modem for my 8 bit computers.
