Ultima I on 130XE?

Is there any way to get Ultima I to run on a 130XE? I keep getting a message "ROM CARTRIDGE PRESENT or MACHINE LESS THAN 48K or BAD MEMORY AT A000"... I tried a translator disk too, no dice.

I've played this on my 130XE. I think I needed the translator disk, though and if I remember, I also needed to press RETURN or SPACE when the drive stops.

 

Not sure of the messages you get, never seen them. I have a PAL 130XE, though, maybe there's something different there?

It could be that I really do have BAD MEMORY AT A000.

Was this an official release? I thought the Atari only got Ultima's II-IV.

There is an official release - sounds like it thinks BASIC is still installed? Make sure you run the Translator and get BASIC disabled.

 

I played II/III and while wiating for IV played I - Didnt like it that much but I can say I completed them all

Yeah I played through I and II just to say "I played them all", but it wasn't until III that the games started to resemble the Ultima's that I know and love.

Are you holding down the OPTION key to disable BASIC when you boot?
